Turgutreis Holidays – Spectacular sunsets and seaside charm

Tumbling down a valley amongst ancient olive and fig trees, the attractive seaside town of Turgutreis looks out across the Aegean from the most western coast of the Bodrum peninsula. You won’t find high-rise hotels or garish neon strip lighting here; somehow this small but popular town has managed to avoid the ravages of mass-commercialism that can blight so many other Mediterranean resorts, while still maintaining a lively atmosphere.

Small traditional tavernas, restaurants and low-rise whitewashed hotels populate the centre of the town, while an attractive little harbour complete with gently bobbing fishing boats is a lovely place to sit and have a refreshing drink. What’s more this is arguably one of the best locations in Turkey for witnessing the sunset – the views out to sea as the sun goes down are simply breath-taking here.

Accommodation consists primarily of small, 2 or 3-star hotels and B&B’s, most of which are situated overlooking the beach or on the seafront road. You can take a daytrip by boat to the nearby Greek Islands of Kos and Rhodes, and on Saturdays the town has a lively market where you can try your hand at haggling. The beach at Turgutreis is long and sandy, with calm, shallow waters ideal for families with young children.
