East Midlands Airport
East Midlands airport was originally a RAF station called RAF Castle Donington, decommissioned in 1946. The site was bought in 1964, renamed East Midlands Airport and re-opened in 1965. Today the airport handles more than four million passengers and hosts flights to almost a hundred exciting destinations worldwide. It’s won several prestigious awards including the World’s Leading Eco Friendly Airport and Best Regional Airport. The airport supports more than 6000 jobs and generates about three hundred million pounds for the local economy. Situated near Donington in north Leicestershire, it’s within a twenty mile radius of Derby, Leicester and Nottingham.
There are plenty of places to shop at the airport, including household name brands like Accessorize, the Aviation Gift Centre, a Tax and Duty Free outlet, Boots, Dixons, The Massage Chair Company, Spar and Style, the top fashion outlet. There’s a great choice of eateries too, with a Burger King, Caffe Ritazza, Greggs the Bakers and more. Plus a Travelex currency exchange store. There’s convenient pay-as-you-go internet via several terminals, and you can play games to while away the time before boarding with a bank of state-of-the-art arcade style gaming machines in Departures and Arrivals, close to the Information desk.
By bus: East Midlands Airport is right in the middle of England so has a broad catchment area. There’s a wide choice of bus services, making it easy to get to Nottingham, Leicester, Derby, Loughborough, Long Eaton and Coalville, and they often run 24/7. You’ll find more details here.
By train: You can pick up East Midlands trains from Derby, Nottingham, Long Eaton and East Midlands Parkway stations, and travel onwards from there throughout the UK rail network.

Airport car parking
The East Midlands short stay car park is right in front of the terminal building and you can pre-book to save cash. The long stay car parks, numbered 1, 2 and 3, are a five minute walk from the terminal and can also be pre-booked. The short stay is also the best place to pick up and drop off. The airport often makes special parking offers, and you’ll find the parking facilities secure and convenient.
