Estoi Holidays

Estoi Holidays – Town, coast and country…the best of everything.

Perched on a hillside, Estoi is a little rustic gem, hidden away amongst olive and almond groves. Flowers fill the gardens of the typically Algarve white-washed houses, but this pretty little village plays host to two extremely important heritage sites. The Milreu Roman ruins, said to have been built by a 1st-century fish tycoon, show almost the perfect lay-out of a luxury villa, with clearly defined rooms including the Roman baths, decorated in glorious aquatic mosaics. The lavish 18th-century Rococo Palacio de Estoi with its lavish gardens and statuary is being totally restored to become a luxurious posada.

But a holiday in Estoi isn’t simply for those who have a nose for history. The bustle of the vibrant Sunday market will tell you more about Portugal and the Portuguese than any guide book or historic remains, and when you have filled your shopping bags with delicious local produce you can take a glass of wine in one of the village cafes – or forget about shopping and eat at a typical Algarve restaurant or head off to the busy fishing town of Olhao, where the freshest of seafood is served in restaurants around the harbour.

For livelier times, head for Faro, with its lively waterfront, bustling cafes and restaurants, and string of sandy beaches.
