Valletta Holidays – Fascinating history in the Mediterranean sun

“A city built by gentlemen for gentlemen” was one early visitor’s verdict on Valletta and Malta’s capital is still in large part the city of the ‘Knights of Malta’. Surrounded by sea on three sides – including the famous Grand Harbour - it has vast fortifications all the way round.

Valletta is a UNESCO World Heritage City, a place of narrow streets overhung with traditional wooden balconies, historic buildings, churches, museums, restaurants and outdoor cafes. Much of it is pedestrianised making it a pleasure to walk around.

The capital is also an excellent base from which to explore the whole island. The main bus station lies just outside the city walls and from here you can get almost anywhere on the island including sun-drenched beaches and some of the oldest stone buildings in the world.
