Baa Atoll Holidays - An ideal escapist holiday destination

Baa Atoll, in the north-west region of the Maldives, consists of 75 islands of which only 13 are inhabited, making this the ideal escapist holiday destination. The Northern Atolls are blessed with more sunshine and less rain than the Southern Atolls, and the all year round 30C temperatures are the perfect complement to the stunning beaches. Baa Atoll’s inhabited islands include the bustling capital Eydhafushi, which specialises in “feyli weaving” – a local variety of wrap around skirt - and Thulhaadhoo where you can find some of the most famous lacquer ware produced in the region.

Apart from holiday resorts such as Coco Palm, Reethi Beach, and Royal Island there are numerous secluded islands such as the isolated Goidhoo that make for the perfect Crusoe desert island experience. All of the islands can be reached on day cruises and island hopping boat trips. Baa Atoll boasts numerous water sports activities as you would expect from a tropical destination. The Maldives also contain some of the world’s most famous dive sites and there are PADI diving centres at most of the luxury resorts.

Baa Atoll boasts one of the few locations in the world where whale sharks congregate to mate and the area also regularly sees some of the largest gatherings of manta rays on earth. In June 2011 Baa Atoll was designated as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.
