Maltas’ capital, Valletta, is incredibly rich in history and culture and its’ 16th century streets are full of unique well-preserved buildings. An ideal city to explore on foot, Valletta only measures one kilometer square, and its’ narrow streets are full of delightful shops selling antiques, maps, jewellery and books. Many grand squares in Valletta are home to charming cafes and bars, perfect for a break from sightseeing. Some interesting places to visit in Valletta include the 16th century Grand Masters’ Palace, St Johns’ Co Cathedral, with its’ beautiful marble floors, the National War Museum, housing the George Cross awarded to the people of Malta, and the National Archaeological Museum. Across the harbour are the three suburbs of Valletta, the ‘Cottonera’, with their medieval homes and intricate palaces.
