New Port Richey Things To Do

The historic downtown in New Port Richey is interesting to stroll around, with its quaint town centre, waterfront landscape and river running through the centre, and good shopping and dining.

Local beaches are easy to reach from the town, with Clearwater Beach, St. Pete Beach, Madeira Beach, Indian Shores and Caldesi offering a day of relaxation by the Gulf.

 

From dinner cruises and floating casinos, to sailboat rental, sightseeing tours, snorkelling excursions and kayaking, New Port Richey offers a host of scenic boat trips - a great way to see the area. 

 

With both fly-fishing on the Cotee River and deep-sea trips out in the Gulf of Mexico, fishing enthusiasts can spend many a peaceful day out on the waters around New Port Richey.

 

Jet skiing, waterskiing, scuba-diving and snorkelling are all available on the Gulf beaches, with tennis, hiking, fitness centres, horse riding and bike rental on offer.

 

Walk, bike or jog along the Suncoast Trail, which crosses many rivers and creeks and gives visitors a view of the natural landscapes around the region, or visit the Jay B Starkey Wilderness Park.

 

New Port Richey and the surrounding area has an excellent choice of golf courses for visitors, from public to private, and all offering a great base for a relaxing round of golf in the Florida sunshine.

 

The Greek Sponge Docks at Tarpon Springs, south of New Port Richey, are a great day trip, with a sponge museum, aquarium and sightseeing cruises, and the region offers a fantastic range of Greek restaurants, bakeries and markets.

 

Tampa Bay is about an hour's drive from New Port Richey and has a number of sights and attractions, including the African-themed Busch Gardens, museums and the lively Ybor city with its historic centre and excellent nightlife. The theme parks of Orlando are a 2-hour drive, and the Kennedy Space Centre lies 3 hours away.
