Foca Holidays
Foca Holidays – Enjoy some of Turkey’s finest beaches!
Foca holidays, set just 40 miles north of busy Izmir in Turkey and 35 miles from lovely Cesme, offer a feast of natural beauty, lovely crystal clear waters, tiny coves and a truly wonderful climate. If you want reliable sunshine and heat, it’s perfect! A few of the local bays have been awarded a Blue Flag for cleanliness, including the Mersinaki Coves and gorgeous Yeni Foca Canak cove. The town is full of attractive traditional stone houses with an old-style Turkish feel and the area is famous for its rare Mediterranean Monk Seals, which enjoy protected status.
There’s a happy seaside atmosphere with open-air restaurants lining the shore of the Küçük Deniz, the Small Sea to the north of the bay, and scenic fishing boats anchored in the Büyük Deniz, the so-called Big Sea, to the south. The resort’s many comfy small hotels, boutique hotels and villas make it a popular haven for families and couples.
When to go
This little town’s population doubles in the peak summer months as thousands of us head for its beautiful beaches. So if you prefer your break quieter and more peaceful, take your holidays to Foca either side of the British school summer break. If you’re sensitive to the heat, you might be better off steering clear of July and August when it is spectacularly hot with higher hotel prices, accommodation costs and humidity to match. Fantastic if you’re a real heat monster! Luckily if you’re not, the climate is fabulous either side of the school summer break too, as well as offering lower prices.
The weather in Foca
Package holidays to Foca are all about masses of sunshine and reliable heat. Expect to roast under a 33-34C sun in July and August, with night time temperatures of 22C or more. June is gorgeous, 30C during the day and 19C upwards after dark. May is beautiful too, hitting 26C and falling to 15C minimum at night. And after the main summer rush, September is glorious with 30C days and 19C nights. October is also a popular month for holidaymakers with 25C during the day and 15C minimum after dark making it similar to the best British summer days. December and January can be wet and you might get the occasional fierce (yet warm) summer storm.
Getting the best deal
You’ll probably find it easier to track down a cheap deal outside the school summer holidays, although you can find great deal any time of year if you know where to look. There’s more space and peace either side of the peak months of July and August, in May and June, September and October when it’s also marginally cooler and a lot less humid. Airport and transport need to know
Foca’s nearest airport is the Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) with its smart 2006 terminal and excellent facility, just eleven miles south of Izmir. It’s busy in summer but they’re used to processing thousands of holidaymakers quickly and efficiently. You can travel from the airport to the city centre on an airport shuttle bus – they leave three times an hour from outside the Turkish Airlines office. From Izmir city centre, frequent buses run to Foca, a 90 minute trip on a local dolmus. Just bear in mind they don’t run in the evening.
It’s easy to get to Izmir by road along the coast, which is spectacular. If you hire a car remember to drive on the right and take care – the locals adore driving fast! If you catch a private taxi it ought to cost about £85 each way, and it should cost around £100 each way by minibus. You can fly to Izmir from a choice of UK airports including London Gatwick, Manchester and Belfast.
