Patara Holidays
Patara Holidays – Unspoiled and quiet with a fab beach nearby!
On Patara holidays life slows to an ancient pace, far from the madding crowds on the coast but near enough to dip in and out of the fun and frolics if you wish. It’s a small village for the most part untouched by tourism, set in a conservation area - so impressively unspoiled. It’s set just inland from a stunning twelve mile long sandy beach, often featured as one of the Med’s most beautiful and unspoiled and only a short walk away. The air is fragrant with local olive groves, fruit orchards and lush vegetable gardens, and traditional beehives dot the pine-clad hills.
Situated in Patara National Park, building is severely restricted in the village, which sits in a lovely wooded valley surrounded by open countryside. Not far from Kalkan and Kas, it’s perfect for a taste of the real Turkey and home to some of the most friendly and welcoming locals you can imagine meeting. As such it’s a delightful destination for people who like something quieter and a bit different, as well as having the option to party hard if they feel the need!
When to go
Take your holidays to Patara at peak season if you prefer the place you’re staying in to have a nice, busy buzz. If you prefer things quieter, the best time to travel is probably outside the British summer school holidays, when prices for accommodation and flights are lower. Either way Patara, being just off the coast, is often cooler at night and fresher during the day than at sea level. Like all of Turkey’s resorts, the weather in July and August can be fiercely hot and also humid, so if you prefer heat without stickiness, travel in May, June, September or October.
The weather in Patara
If you adore heat take package holidays to Patara right in the middle of the summer peak season, in July and August when daytime temperatures hit 32C and it only falls to 18C at night. You’ll love it as long as you don’t mind high humidity to match. Otherwise it’s probably best to travel either side of the peak summer months, May to June and September/October. During May you’ll enjoy hot days at 24C, 29C in June and 11-15C after dark. Later in the year you’ll find it around 29C in September and 23C in October, at night 14C and 11C respectively. It can get very wet from November to February, otherwise it’s simply gorgeous!

Airport and transport need to know
You can fly direct to Dalaman airport (DLM) from numerous British regional and major airports, from London to Newcastle, Birmingham to Nottingham and loads more. Once you’re there you should find it relatively painless to get through baggage and out, with a smart new terminal and good facilities if you need them. A private taxi for 1-4 people ought to cost approximately £360 per vehicle for a return trip, taking roughly an hour and a half.
If you feel adventurous, you can catch a taxi at the airport to Dalaman bus station about six miles away, and pick up a local bus from there to Fethiye, then another bus to Patara itself, taking in the stunning scenery along the way. It’s best to fix your cab price up front. If you hire a car, drive on the right and keep your eyes peeled for the locals’ famously ‘creative’ driving!
