Ovacik Holidays – An authentic taste of Turkish life

Ovacik holidays take you to the delightful Karabuk province in Turkey. Ovacik is a small inland village with a long, hot summer season. The Babadag Mountains in the background are famous for excellent paragliding and the village itself is a busy little place packed with bars, eateries and cafes. Olu Deniz is close by, with its award-winning spotless sandy beach. Ovacik is well known and loved for its excellent water sports, including top class parasailing, scuba diving, banana boats, water scooters and diving.

There’s a massive marina with room for 600 boats and more shopping and late night entertainment at Hisaronu, just along the coast. The village is lovely and far from high tech, making the resort a wonderful place for nature lovers as well as party-goers.  Ideal for sun, sea, sand, sights and adventure, it’s popular with couples, families and groups alike for all-year-round sunshine, just four hours’ flight time from home.

When to go

Ovacik delivers the best of both worlds, offering the peace and quiet of a rural village with easy, fast access to Olu Deniz beach and lively Hisaronu just a few miles away by local bus. Holidays to Ovacik are wonderful all year round but many people feel the best time to visit is in May, June, September or October, either side of the peak summer months, when the mountain air is fresh and it is cooler and more comfortable at night than it is down on the coast. If you love to roast yourself, choose July and August when it’s fiercely hot and often very humid.

The weather in Ovacik

Take package holidays to Ovacik in May and discover hot, dry days reaching 24C and 11C at night. In June temperatures rise to 29C, 15C after dark and in the peak holiday months, July and August, things get even hotter at 32C during the day and 18C at night, with at least 10 hours of sunshine every day. Avoid July and August if you don’t like humidity! The sea is warmest between June and October, beautifully balmy for swimming at 23-27C, and there’s the greatest chance of rain between November and February.

Getting the best deal

As you would expect, this lovely resort is at its most crowded in mid-summer when the British schools are on holiday, with higher prices to match. Either side of the summer school break accommodation and flights tend to drop in price, but there are usually great deals to be found if you do your homework and know where to look! Ovacik is always quieter than the lively beach-side resorts just down the hill on the coast, and outside the peak season it’s even lovelier, especially if you fancy a relaxing break with the potential to dip in and out of the party atmosphere by the sea. You’ll discover some of the best Ovacik deals below. Alternatively take a tour of our special late deals offers and pay less!

Airport and transport need to know

From the UK you’ll fly direct to Dalaman airport (DLM), whose new terminal makes travelling a lot more enjoyable than it used to be pre-2006: it’s fast, efficient and well equipped with plenty of useful facilities including shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. Dalaman is the gateway to this part of Turkey’s fabulous Mediterranean coast so it’s easy to get to via a choice of major and regional UK airports including Nottingham, London, Manchester, Bristol and Newcastle.

Your transfer time? Expect it to take about an hour by road, costing approximately £18 per person return by shuttle bus and around £140 return for a private taxi for 1-4 people. Dalaman bus station is around six miles away in the centre of town, which you can reach by taxi. From there, local buses depart regularly for resorts, towns and villages along the coast, costing very little. If you hire a car, don’t forget they drive on the right and the locals tend to drive fast!
