Fethiye Holidays

Fethiye, Turkey

Fethiye holidays – Hot days and an even hotter nightlife!

Fethiye holidays are a feast of sun, sea and sand in an amazingly beautiful city that sits on the ruins of the ancient city of Telmessos. It’s one of Turkey’s best loved holiday destinations, adored by couples, families and groups alike and particularly popular with Brits.

The local people are famously kind and friendly and because Fethiye is set in such stunning natural splendour, there’s plenty to do off-beach as well as on the glorious golden sands. The resort was given an award for the world’s best destination by The Times and Guardian in 2007 and it is home to some of the best beaches on the Mediterranean.

You’re just 3 miles from the enormous Calis Beach and a little over five miles over lovely hills to the beach at Ölüdeniz, perhaps Turkey's most beautiful. If you’re excited by history, this place is rich in wonderful ruins and breath-taking historical sites. Last but never least there are loads of great nightclubs, so it’s perfect for party animals too!

When to go to Fethiye

What’s the best time to go to Fethiye? It depends on how hot you like your weather. It’s glorious between May and October, peaking in July and August when it can also be very humid and sticky, so if you prefer your holidays hot but not too hot, avoid July and August. If you can avoid the British school summer holidays you will find it easier to track down a bargain break. The weather there is so good it’s popular at Easter too. In winter the resort reverts to a normal city and there are fewer holidaymakers and it’s very wet in January and December so this is no place for a winter break!

The weather in Fethiye

From April to October it’s lovely, the rest of the time it’s bright and wet. Most people choose package holidays to Fethiye during the summer season. In May and October daytime temperatures reach an average of 25C. In June and September they hit 30C during the day, 15-16C at night. In July and August it is blazing hot, averaging 34C and often more in daytime, a wonderfully warm 18-19C at night. And it’s humid in July and August too – very humid - so choose an early or late break if you can’t stand the heat. In high summer you can expect 13-14 hours of gorgeous sunshine and 14-15 hours of daylight per day, and the sea, at 27C, is warmest in August.

Getting the best deal to Fethiye

The best time to travel to Fethiye? If you want cheap deals it’s usually best to steer clear of the UK school summer holidays. There’s the added benefit that the resort is quieter outside school holidays, although it’s so popular you might not notice much difference! Spring and autumn hotels and flights are often excellent value for money. You’ll find some of the best Fethiye deals below.

Airport and transport need to know

The nearest international airport to Fethiye is Dalaman airport (DLM), reachable from any number of regional and national airports. It’s only about 35 miles away so transfers are nice and quick. You can catch a smart local shuttle bus which takes about an hour to get to Fethiye – here’s a link to the details: www.havas.net. A shuttle minibus should cost you around £17 per person return, a private cab for 1-4 people costs about £144 return per vehicle and both take around an hour.

There’s plenty to do in the airport itself if you get delayed, with a smart new terminal and loads of shops, cafes and restaurants to enjoy. If you’re planning to hire a car, in Turkey they drive on the right. But they’d be the first to admit that they love to drive as fast as possible and don’t always stick to the right hand side of the road!
