Holidays to Dalaman – Sheer heaven under the hot sun!

The Dalaman region is a delightful mix of gorgeous beaches, ancient history, water sports, clubbing, entertainment, natural wonders and eating out. So it’s perfect for any taste, from party animals to people with a mellower outlook on life.

Marmaris and Hisaronu are vibrant and lively, while Olu Deniz, Calis Beach and Icmeler are quieter, with Fethiye and Akyaka delivering a taste of the real Turkey. The verdict? You guessed it… holidays to Dalaman have everything!

When to go to Dalaman

You can jet off to Dalaman all year round, with more direct flights between May and October covering the region’s long, hot summer.  It’s busiest during the school summer holidays, Easter and half term breaks, quieter and cheaper during term time. June, July and August are the peak months, when it’s hottest and there’s a risk of high humidity. Some resorts provide winter sun breaks, although many restaurants and bars shut down outside of the summer season.

The weather in Dalaman

There are two main seasons in the Dalaman region; in summer it’s hot and mostly dry, in winter it’s warm and wet. Package holidays to Dalaman in July and August can get as hot as 34C during the day and 20C after dark, with a risk of high humidity. In June and September it peaks at 31C during the day and it’s usually around 18C at night. And between July and August there are 13-14 hours of sunshine a day!

Getting the best deal

Outside the school holidays, during term time, it’s cheaper and quieter, but there are always bargains to be found. Why not explore our special resort pages for details of the region’s gorgeous sun, sea and sand destinations, or explore the region’s cities? Alternatively, there’s a selection of our best deals and package holidays to Dalaman below.

Airport and transport need to know

Dalaman airport (DLM) is your best bet, and it’s accessible direct from a choice of British airports including London, Newcastle, Cardiff, Manchester and Edinburgh. You could fly into Bodrum airport but your transfer times to your Dalaman resort will be a lot longer. Dalaman airport is busy but the new terminal handles 10 million passengers a year smoothly. It’s busiest during the peak season between June and August.

Transfer times:

  • Dalaman to Marmaris (1 hour 30 minutes)
  • Hisoranu (1 hour 15 minutes)
  • Olu Deniz and Calis (1 hour)
  • Iclemer (1 hour 30 minutes)
  • Fethiye (1 hour)
  • Akyaka (1 hour 15 minutes)

There are no public buses from Dalaman International Airport to local resorts, and there are no rail links either. It’s best to pre-book an airport shuttle bus or private taxi, or pick up a cab at the airport. If you hire a taxi at the airport, negotiate a good price up front. And if you hire a car, remember to drive on the right.

The best beaches in Dalaman

If lazing on a sun lounger is your ideal activity, the Dalaman region leaves you spoilt for choice. It’s not called the Turquoise Coast for nothing, and the entire Dalamans shoreline is made up of secluded coves, wide bays and endless stretches of lovely, soft sand. In Icmeler three Blue Flag beaches, soft sand and beach bars are the name of the game, perfect for passing mellow days lying in the sun with plenty of space to find a reasonably secluded spot and enough handy facilities on tap to keep you in drinks, snacks and beach essentials.

If you like your holidays action-packed, the entire region offers excellent watersports, particularly the larger resorts. Why not try Calis Beach, just four miles from Fethiye, for informal fun and some of the best water sports in the region? The beach is made of coarse sand and stretches an enormous two and a half miles, with a pedestrian path right along the road that hugs the coastline. Enjoy windsurfing, kite surfing and more.

Patara beach is perfect if you prefer to lunge away from the madding crowds. It’s so huge that it’s easy to find a secluded spot, even in the peak season. The enormous curve of sand is just stunning, and it’s huge, rated by many as the best beach on the planet and nine miles long, the longest beach on the Mediterranean. Made from fine brown sand, the beach is backed by dunes and ruins, with a tiny café at one and nothing else to distract your eyes except endless deep blue water and blue skies.
