Tekirova Holidays
Tekirova Holidays – A small, relaxing resort at the foot of the Taurus Mountains
For peace and tranquillity, Tekirova is hard to beat. This is one of the smallest tourist resorts on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, with a laid-back, seaside village feel. Located at the foot of the majestic Taurus Mountains and surrounded by fragrant pine forests, Tekirova has something of a picture-postcard setting. Holidays here very much centre around the beach; a long, pristine expanse of golden sand and pebbles that stretches as far as the eye can see. Aside from that, the resort consists of a handful of traditional tavernas, some excellent restaurants, a small arcade full of souvenir shops and a lively weekly market on Saturday.
There is a range of accommodation options at the resort, from small budget hotels to larger luxury complexes to self-catering villas. While the nightlife in Tekirova is unashamedly low-key, those seeking a more boisterous night out can check out the bars and clubs at nearby Kemer – around 20 minutes taxi ride away – or travel further up the coast to bustling Antalya.
Despite being quiet, there are plenty of things to do in the resort, including diving at the popular Adrasan Caves, horse-riding, river rafting, hiking in the foothills of the mountains, windsurfing, and kite surfing. Popular local excursions include trips to Mount Olympus, the Roman ruins at Phaselis, the ruins of a semi-submerged castle and amphitheatre at Simena, and the Ekopark – an ecological park with rare plants and animals, including crocodiles.
When to go
The best time to visit Tekirova for activities is spring (April-May) or autumn (late September-October). These periods are cooler and therefore more comfortable for walking and cycling. They also see lower accommodation prices than the peak season. For beach lovers, the peak summer months of June-August will see the hottest temperatures and the largest crowds – fortunately the beach here is big enough to accommodate everyone even at the zenith of summer.
The weather in Tekirova
Holidays to Tekirova will see the best weather between April-October. April marks the beginning of spring, with pleasantly warm temperatures of 21C, heating up through May to around 25C. The summer starts in June and continues through to August, with temperatures ranging from 30-34C on average and between 12-13 hours of sunshine a day.
September starts out nearly as hot at 31C, before cooling off to mark the beginning of autumn at the end of the month and through to October with average temperatures of 26C. The winter starts in November and goes on through to March, with temperatures ranging from 15-21C. Although there will be an increased chance of rain over this period, most days will remain dry and it is possible to take winter sun holidays at this time – however the resort gets very quiet and virtually closes down.
Getting the best deal
To get the best deals to Tekirova, make sure you avoid notoriously expensive times such as the Easter and half term school holidays. Booking off-peak in the spring and summer will see generally lower prices, and some excellent last-minute bargains. If you are planning on visiting in the peak summer months of June-August, be sure to book as early as possible – there is limited accommodation in the resort, and the best priced rooms in the most popular hotels will sell out quickly.
All-inclusive holidays to Tekirova are a good way of keeping check on your money, with all meals and drinks accounted for upfront. Alternatively, self-catering is a great way to cut back on spending if you don’t mind cooking your own meals. Airport and transport need to know
Holidays to Tekirova start when you fly into Antalya International Airport (AYT). Large, modern and clean, this airport has three terminals; T1 and T2 for international flights, T3 for domestic traffic. The airport can get very busy, especially during peak season. There are a good selection of shops, from duty free stores to luxury, high end boutiques selling watches, ties and clothing, which service the Arrivals, Departures and lounge areas. You’ll find currency exchange bureaus at both international terminals, and cash machines at T1.
It takes just over 4 hours to reach Antalya airport from the UK. You can fly from a number of UK airports, including London Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, Manchester, Edinburgh and Cardiff, and smaller regional hubs such as Newcastle and Leeds Bradford.
The quickest and easiest way to get to Tekirova from the airport is by taxi. Taxis wait outside the international terminals’ Arrivals halls. There is a large sign indicating the price of fares to each resort. You should expect to pay around £55 for a taxi to the resort. The journey should take around 1 hour 15 minutes.
Alternatively, you can opt for a shared shuttle taxi – generally in the form of a minivan. These are cheaper, at around £18 per person, but can take longer as other passengers may have to be dropped off at different resorts. The estimated journey time for a shred taxi is 2 hours. You can pre-book private and shared taxis from companies such as HolidayTaxis.com.
If you aren’t concerned about driving on the right-hand side of the road, hiring a car for the duration of your trip, to be picked up at the airport, can be a convenient choice. Reputable companies such as Argus Car Hire can arrange this for you. Depending on the model and size of car, you should expect to pay around £20-£35 a day. You must be over 21 to drive.
The best beaches in Tekirova
With a mix of pebbles tumbling into the azure Mediterranean, and gently shelving golden sandy expanses, it’s no wonder the southern coast of Turkey is known as the ‘Turkish Riviera’. You’ll find dozens of beautiful, pine-fringed coves and beaches here, with the soaring Taurus Mountains forming an impressive backdrop. Tekirova is no exception, with some fantastic Blue-Flag sandy beaches nearby.
Tekirova beach
The beach at Tekirova is a long, straight expanse of golden sand and pebbles, stretching for many miles. Because of the size of the beach and the resort’s small size, you’ll be able to find a secluded spot to yourself even during the peak summer months. The beach is backed by pine forests, providing a shady place to sit should the sun become too fierce. There are parasols and sunbeds here, as well as a wide range of watersports including kite-surfing, sailing, kayaking, water skiing, windsurfing and snorkelling. Those of a nautical disposition can charter a traditional Turkish gullet (sail boat) and explore the coastline, and dive trips can be arranged to underwater archaeological sites and caves. All in all, a great spot for relaxing in the sun or beach activities.
Moonlight Bay
With long golden sands and warm, shallow waters, Moonlight Bay at the neighbouring resort of Kemer is a great spot for those with children. Kemer is an easy 20 minute drive from Tekirova by taxi. You’ll find sun loungers, parasols, public toilets and showers here, as well as a good selection of watersports and scuba diving opportunities. You’ll find plenty of beach bars and cafes, and an attractive harbour nearby.
