Syros Holidays
Syros Holidays – A taste of authentic Greek island life
Syros is part of the Cyclades group of islands between Tinos and Kythnos.
Holidays in Syros offer one of the least commercialised islands in Greece, where tourism exists happily alongside the local economy. Syros was an important trading point in the Aegean in the 19th century and is still the commercial centre for the Cyclades islands, with important dairy, horticulture and textile industries along with animal breeding and vineyards. Syros holidays appeal to those seeking a taste of authentic Greek island life. Unusually, half the population of Syros are Catholic.
Syros Holidays – Quiet beaches and plenty of Greek atmosphere
Holidays in Syros offer a fine choice of beaches, many of which remain undeveloped or have just a couple of beach bars or tavernas. Try the fresh seafood, local wine, cheese and sweets. Syros holidays are not known for wild nightlife. Most Syros holiday nightlife is found in the capital Ermoupolis but you will find pleasant cafes, bars and tavernas at several Syros beaches and something a little livelier in the modest beach resorts like Galissas and Finikis. Syros holidays offer watersports at several beaches and sensational sunsets.
Holidays in Syros – A nice balance
Holidays in Syros offer plenty of unspoilt Greek character and a nice balance between tourism and normal working life. One of the highlights of Syros holidays is the striking capital Ermoupolis with fine Venetian mansions, neoclassical buildings, a fantastic vibrant town square and fine churches. Holidays in Syros shouldn’t mss the medieval fortified city of Ano Syros with its Catholic cathedral, monasteries and a fascinating maze of narrow lanes, whitewashed houses, archways and arcades. Holidays in Syros can enjoy the fine beaches on the west and south coasts like Poseidonia with its old mansions, Finikas with its little harbour. You can visit tiny picturesque villages with romantic tavernas like Kini and Azolimnos. Local buses run to beaches and inland villages. Syros has an airport though many visitors fly to the neighbouring island of Mykonos.
