Montreux Holidays

Pearl of the Swiss Riviera
Swiss lakes and mountain holidays in Montreux put you in a place widely seen as the Pearl of the Swiss Riviera. Montreux sits between some stunning Swiss mountains and glorious Lake Geneva. It's an area of outstanding beauty with a mild climate and fantastic flora and fauna. You can get to the top of the local mountains on foot if you're energetic, or you might prefer the mountain railways. For excursions on the lake, a steamship cruise is just one of several options. If you're exploring the Swiss lakes and mountains by road on your Montreux holidays, make sure you make time for Lausanne, Chillon Castle, Gruyères, Zermatt and the Matterhorn.

Festivals and concerts
On a Montreux holiday, you won't be short of activities and the area's famous festivals and summer concerts are a must-see. The main events include the Narcissus Festival in May and June, July's 16-day Jazz Festival and the Léman Tradition sailing regatta in late summer. It all comes wrapped up in a package that includes a beautiful floral quayside, terraces, bars, bistros and boutique, plus traditional restaurants that feature fish fresh from the lake, washed down with gorgeous local wine.

Lovely in summer
Summer is when your Montreux holidays come alive. You'll enjoy swimming in the lake, trying a spot of water-skiing or taking a cruise. When you've finished that, you might want to sample some of the discos, casinos, and piano and jazz bars along the promenade. But these are Swiss lakes and mountains holidays, and you'll want to explore the Rochers-de-Naye, at over 2000 metres above sea level, if only for the amazing view of Lake Geneva and the Bernese Alps. Watch out here for paragliders and hang gliders – or join in. After that, explore the vineyards above the town that come with their own cycling and walking trails.

Montreux weather

On your Montreux holidays, you'll notice a temperate, mild climate around Montreux. In winter, you can see ice storms on the lake but summertime swimming is very popular off the lake beaches at Montreux. During December, January and February, snow is a common occurrence around Montreux, with temperatures hovering above, or sometimes below, freezing, making the area ideal for skiers on cheap Swiss lakes and mountain holidays.
