Maloja Holidays
Snow's a certainty
On holidays in Maloja, snow's a certainty. A tiny village in the Engadin Valley in the canton of Graubünden, Maloja is a great ski resort that's also the starting point for the Engadin Ski Marathon. Maloja is in the mountains in Switzerland, yet it's an Italian-speaking town elevated at over 1800 metres, which guarantees it constant falls of the white stuff. Maloja holidays in the Swiss lakes and mountains offer a perfect base not only for skiing but also for winter walking, 150kms of cross-country skiing, snowboarding and three toboggan runs. Among the stunning mountains in this part of Switzerland, total peace is possible in this lovely village, which sits on its own plateau.
Catering for kids
If you're taking family holidays in Maloja, you'll be pleased to hear the village is the only one in the valley to receive a Swiss Tourism Organisation 'Families Welcome' award. The prize was won partly because of Piz Aela, a family ski area with guaranteed snow, a lift that rises to 2200 metres and two 1800-metre tow lifts. If Majola isn't enough skiing for your cheap Swiss mountain holidays, take public transport to over 60 ski lifts and 350kms of ski pistes in the Engadin.
More than just skiing
On a Maloja holiday, there's more than mere skiing to keep you entertained. Around these beautiful mountains in Switzerland, you also have 120 kilometres of networked winter-hiking trails, three toboggan runs and lots of snowshoe trails through the Swiss lakes and mountains. If that's not enough, try the natural, floodlit ice rink, on which ice skating, curling and ice hockey are all regularly played. Accommodation on your cheap Maloja holidays comprises anything from one of eight hotels to over 80 apartments and the town's youth hostel.
