Cap Salou Holidays
Cap Salou Holidays – Get away from it all
Cap Salou holidays are suited to families, singles and couples seeking a relaxing away-from-it-all Spanish break, rather than an action-packed couple of weeks in the sun. Flying there means heading to a pretty, picture postcard idyll in Catalonia: a beautiful and welcoming autonomous region in the country’s north-east.
The resort is not in any way boisterous or appropriate for party animals, but it is located in the Spanish Festival Region, Costa Dorada. There, fiestas, carnivals, processions and other fascinating living heritage events take place each month. Culture-lovers will be in their element, especially as Barcelona is also only an hour away.
For the kids, a day out at the Universal Port Aventura theme park on the resort’s outskirts is a holiday treat indeed.
When to go to Cap Salou
At the resort, places like Poniente Beach, Playa de la Pineda and Playa del Rincon are busy throughout the summer season. But is it by no means solely a summer resort. Thanks to the climate (warm summers and mild winters), holidays there can be enjoyed at any time of year. How about a round of golf on a pleasant April or October afternoon?
There is no danger of you flying out there for your summer holiday in Spain to find the beaches, restaurants and bars overcrowded. During the day you’ll find plenty of room to spread out and soak up the sun. And evenings out won’t involve jostling for a place at a packed bar; the resort in Spain is far too quiet and relaxed for all that.
The weather in Cap Salou
The resort enjoys a Mediterranean climate. Apart from the odd tropical storm, very few days with rain occur in summer. The mild winters help to make it an all-year-round holiday destination. Flying out between June and mid-September is best for sun-worshippers. The average daytime temperature then is 27°C (sometimes reaching 30°C in mid-August).
In June and July up to 10 hours of sunshine daily is what you can look forward to. Throughout the summer, an average night-time temperature of 18°C prevails. The agreeable evening warmth makes family walks or romantic strolls with that special someone a pleasure. During the winter period the average daytime temperature is 14°C (7.5°C at night).
Getting the best deal to Cap Salou
During any season package holidays to Cap Salou can be enjoyed at the resort. If you are on a tight budget and need to keep costs right down, opt for an off-peak break in May or October. The locale will be quieter then and flight prices will have markedly dropped compared to in peak season – the height of summer.
If you really want to bag a bargain (the cheapest deals of all) think about flying to the resort outside of school holidays. Choosing to go at that time will mean the selection of hotels available to you and your family will be wider. It will still be warm enough there to enjoy some fun outdoor pursuits.

Airport and transport need to know
Finding flights to Catalonia from the UK is easy; flights out leave regularly from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Manchester, Bristol, Glasgow and Belfast airports. You can choose between flying to either Reus Airport (REU) or Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN). Allow for a two-hour flight from London, although this can sometimes be quicker, airline-depending.
What’s great about both airports is that they are modern and baggage collection is super-fast. You can enjoy a cool drink or even grab a tasty bite at Reus Airport, which, although small, can still boast a café and a family-friendly restaurant. At both airports you can stock up on duty free goods.
Equally easy to find at Reus Airport are taxis to transfer you to the resort (10km away). The bus trip will be much cheaper, of course. From Barcelona expect a 1 hour 15 minute drive. The train from Barcelona does not stop at the resort, so a taxi, hired car or the bus are your options. Hitchhiking in Catalonia can be dangerous, so avoid that.
The best beaches in Cap Salou
Holidays to Cap Salou usually centre on wonderfully relaxing days at the beaches. But which ones are best? Well, it all depends upon your preference.
If all you want to do on your holiday is lie back on a sun lounger and work on your tan, then there are a few beaches offering sun lounger and canopy hire. Poniente Beach, Playa de la Pineda, Playa del Rincon and Playa Capellans do so. There, water sports include jet-skiing, sailing, kayaking, windsurfing and water-skiing.
To widen the selection, head for neighbouring resorts where scuba diving, surfing, parasailing, pedalos and banana boat rides are all on offer.
Perhaps isolating yourself at a secluded inlet is more your thing? As the resort is located in such a rocky area, you’ll find three pretty little coves where you can enjoy tranquillity and a wonderful sense of being ‘far from the madding crowd’ (i.e. at boisterous Salou!). You’ll feel safe there too as life guards patrol all day.
Whichever beach you head for, you’ll love how picturesque it all is. That said, be prepared to walk a good number of steps down to some of the beaches at the resort, as it is quite hilly, being set against a backdrop of mountains with pine trees.
