Cambrils Holidays – Live the dream
Holidays in Cambrils (a fabulous resort in north-east Spain’s Golden Coast region) are best suited to families. The resort’s biggest draw is its golden sandy beaches, which extend for 9 kilometres. And with Barcelona being only an hour away, there’s plenty for culture vultures and shopaholics too!
As a well-known and large fishing town, Cambrils oozes tradition and Catalonian heritage. Cheerful and welcoming, it strikes a good balance between old and new. There, as well as soaking up local culture and history, you can have great fun at the beaches. The water sports on offer are plentiful and the kids will love the Port Aventura theme park at nearby Salou
When to go to Cambrils
Because the beaches at the resort extend so far, there is no danger of flying out there to find the beaches are overcrowded. Being a renowned beach holiday paradise, summer is the busiest time. August is the peak month for visitors from abroad.
The area is also famous for being Spain’s Festival Region. But none of the massive carnivals and processions encroaches to the point of making it a place to avoid during those times. Off-season breaks (May or October) can still include a range of outdoor leisure pursuits because it’s still warm there then (the average temperature being 21°C).
The weather in Cambrils
The resort enjoys a Mediterranean (seasonal) climate. The warm summers see little rain, and the winters are mild. If it is blazing sunshine you are looking for on your holidays, fly out any time from early June to mid-September, when the average daytime temperature is 27°C (sometimes reaching 30°C in mid-August).
Up to 10 hours of sunshine daily is what you can expect in June and July. The average night-time summer temperature is 18°C, which makes leisurely evening strolls a delight after a delicious fish supper. Winter daytime temperatures level out at 14°C (7.5°C at night).
Getting the best deal to Cambrils
Holidays can be enjoyed at the resort at any time of year. To get the best deals; opting for an off-peak break is advised – during May or October when the locale is quieter. Flying there outside of school holidays during the off-peak season will bring the price down even more, of course, and give you a wider choice of hotels.

Airport and transport need to know
Flights from the UK to Catalonia leave regularly from several UK airports. Jet-off from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Manchester, Bristol, Glasgow or Belfast to either Reus Airport (REU), or Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN). From London, it’s a two-hour flight. Once there are there, you’ll find both airports modern and baggage collection quick.
Finding a taxi to transfer you from Reus Airport to the resort won’t be a problem. And at only £8.50 for the 20-minute journey, it’s well worth grabbing a luxury cab instead of taking the bus, which can be overcrowded and a bit of an ordeal. There is a café at Reus Airport, plus restaurant and duty-free; so a cool drink or a snack is easily found.
If you don’t mind a 1 hour and 15 minute drive to the resort once you’ve touched down in Catalonia, then flying out from the UK to Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) can be a good idea. It has everything you’d expect from a modern airport. From there, take the Barcelona Airport Train to Barcelona Sants (20 min), and then change. It’s a 1 hour 25 minute journey.
The best beaches in Cambrils
The award-winning beaches at the resort are first-class. They are kept spotlessly clean* and have gentle slopes and shallow water, making them child-friendly. Parents can lie back on sun loungers and top-up their tans while their kids have a ball building sandcastles and playing with those newfound holiday mates they’ve made. Most beaches have playgrounds.
* Pets are not allowed on the beaches from 01 April - 31 October. The presence of life guards, beach police, as well as sign-posted services and sea conditions at all the beaches is also reassuring for mums and dads.
Most beaches are located in a semi-urban area. Expect to find golden sand and calm seas, whichever beach you head for. All nine of the beaches there have been awarded a blue flag from the European Union. This means the sand, water and beach facilities are top quality. Most beaches have disabled access.
Along the extended coastline the beaches are very similar in ‘style’ but can differ in size. At each one, sports and leisure activities can be found. The water sports on offer include kite surfing, sailing, scuba diving, water skiing, windsurfing… Take your pick! There is a sailing school at L'Ardiaca Beach.
Sun loungers and parasols/canopies can be hired at the following beaches:
- L'Ardiaca Beach;
- La Llosa Beach;
- D'Horta Beach;
- Prat d'En Flores Beach;
- Del Cavet Beach.
The resort cannot offer an abundance of secluded rocky coves, if an isolated hideaway rather than a busy beach with a lively vibe is more your thing? Del Cavet Beach is one of the quieter, smaller and less crowded beaches, however. L'Ardiaca Beach is similar, but the sailing school there makes it slightly busier in summer.
