Airport and transport need to know
There are direct, year round flights to Malaga Airport (AGP) from most UK city airports with a flight time of approximately three hours. Malaga Airport is located a mere 30 minutes from Fuengirola. Facilities at Malaga Airport include bars, restaurants, duty free shopping, currency exchange and car hire. Trains, buses and taxis depart from Terminal 3 and taxis are unmetered; the fare to Fuengirola will be approximately 30 euros (£24) per car.
Independently booking a private transfer online is a good option with a fare of around 11 euros (£9) per person. If you wish to explore Costa del Sol then consider hiring a car; the roads in Malaga are in excellent condition with driving on the right. Car hire is inexpensive and can be booked online with a cost of around 90 euros (£72) per week.
The best beaches in Fuengirola
The fantastic beaches and sunny climate are the reasons for the lasting popularity of Fuengirola holidays. The beaches along this stretch of coastline are some of the most unspoilt in Spain, and the fine grey sands are lapped by the exceptionally clear Mediterranean Sea waters. Many of the beaches have been awarded the European Blue Flag status thanks to the high levels of maintenance and the safety features including lifeguards.
Torreblanca is typical example of Fuengirola beaches; a huge stretch of fine sands shelving gently into shallow waters. This family friendly Blue Flag awarded beach is the ideal spot to hire a sun lounger and relax while the children play in the warm waters. The seafront promenade is home to many cafeterias, bars and restaurants and there are apartments all along the beachfront area if you wish to rent accommodation overlooking the beach.
Santa Amalia is another beautiful beach that features a wealth of watersports. You can try your hand at windsurfing, diving, sailing and even fishing or you can simply hire a sun lounger and relax under the shade of a parasol. There are plenty of secluded coves and bays to explore in and around Fuengirola but to really escape the crowds take a ten minute trip up the coast to Benalmadena. Tajo de la Soga is regarded as one of the most secluded and romantic beaches along this stretch of bays and rarely becomes busy, even during the summer months. This is one of those hidden little beaches known to the locals; tranquillity and peace are guaranteed on the beaches along this stretch of coastline.
