Frigiliana Things To Do

The charming Moorish village is full of character, and offers an idyllic setting for a peaceful holiday, with its cobbled streets, white-washed houses, flower-filled balconies and shady squares. Visitors can stroll around the quaint shops, enjoy a drink in the one of the local bars, and linger over a leisurely meal in one of the traditional restaurants found here.

 

A great base for exploring the Andalusia countryside, trips to Frigiliana feature plenty of country walks and hikes, which run through the rugged mountains, pine forests, olive groves and fruit orchards that surround the village. Ideal for nature-lovers, ornithologists and artists, the landscape displays a true taste of unspoilt Spain, with spectacular views out across the coast.

 

Nerja, the closest beach resort, is just a 10 minute drive, and offers a long stretch of golden sand with convenient tourist facilities, and a host of water sports, including water skiing, sailing and scuba diving. The most popular beach is Playa Burriana, although the coast also boasts a host of quiet coves and hidden spots for more peaceful sunbathing.

Tour traditional Spanish villages such as Lanjaron and Bubion, and discover the sleepy pace of life still found up in the mountains. Sample some of their delicious regional produce, such as Serrano ham, cheeses, wine and spring water. 

 

Tennis and swimming can be enjoyed in the surrounding area, and there are facilities for football, basketball, table tennis, rock climbing and hang-gliding, plus two golf courses nearby.

 

As well as exploring the area on foot or by car, the Andalusia countryside is ideal for both mountain biking and horse riding, with bikes available to rent locally and riding stables in both the resort and in Nerja.

 

The caves of Nerja are home to a range of important ancient artefacts, and also serve a a giant music venue during the summer. Granada, with its famous Alhambra, is a great day trip, as are the colourful cities of Seville, Ronda and Malaga.
