Holidays in Estepona – Relaxed Spanish beach resort

Estepona is a family friendly resort that exudes a relaxed and authentic Spanish atmosphere. Located 25km west of Marbella, Estepona features over 20km of glorious sun drenched beaches, eight golf courses, a beautiful marina and numerous bars, cafes and restaurants. Attractions in Estepona include watersports at the beaches, dolphin watching cruises, cycling and horse riding in the Sierra Bermeja mountain range and exploring the Selwo Safari Park. The beaches are of course a natural attraction and can include the livelier resort beaches such as La Rada or the quieter coves and bays of Playa de Cristo.

If you wish to leave the hotel pool or beach then you can take excursions to exciting cities such as Marbella and Gibraltar or enjoy the best nightlife on the coast at Puerto Banus. If you are looking for a taste of traditional Spain set in a modern resort with plenty of activities then Estepona holidays will be the ideal choice.

When to go

Estepona benefits from sunny weather all year round meaning hot summers on the beach and golfing holidays during the winter. The summer months of July and August and the school holidays are the most popular periods although the size of the beaches means there should never be a problem with overcrowding. For a quieter holiday consider the warm spring and autumn seasons; the low seasons will also come with reduced rates on accommodation and flights. Golf a popular sport in Estepona and the 20C temperatures during spring and autumn make the ideal golfing weather conditions.

Best beaches in Estepona

The Costa del Sol is home to some of the most unspoilt beaches in Spain, if not Europe. Many of the beaches have been awarded the European Blue Flag status thanks the high levels of maintenance, water clarity and beautiful surroundings. The beaches along the coast tend to consist of fine grey sands but there are also many golden and white sand beaches to enjoy. The shallow Mediterranean Sea waters are safe for small children to play in and many beaches have lifeguards as an additional safety feature.

La Rada is one of the most popular beaches in Estepona and is located directly in front of the town centre. This Blue Flag awarded beach features lifeguards and shallow waters and there is a nearby marina from which boat trips can be taken. This is an excellent beach for watersports including canoeing and windsurfing. The promenade is home to many restaurants and cafeterias for a mid-day snack and cool drink.

Try El Cristo if you are looking for a beach with a family friendly atmosphere where the children can safely play while you relax on a sun lounger. Located just outside of Estepona, this beach is unique in that its location means it benefits from longer hours of sunshine. Lifeguards are in attendance and the shallow waters are ideal for children.

Head to El Saladillo for a secluded beach where you can escape the crowds and simply enjoy a tranquil beach atmosphere. El Saladillo is never busy, even during the peak summer months, and the one beach bar is the ideal place to dine on the freshest seafood. This is a great place to spend the day and then witness the amazing sunset over the Mediterranean.
