When to go to Alhaurin

If you are a hot weather lover and plan to spend plenty of time on the beaches and swimming in the Mediterranean then the 30C summer months will be ideal. The peak summer months are the busiest and most expensive time of the year in Alhaurin so if you prefer warm weather and a more relaxed atmosphere choose either the spring or autumn months. The low season months are also the best time to find reductions on flights and accommodation. Golf is a national pastime here and good discounts can be found at the golf resort hotels during the low season months.

Airport and transport need to know

Alhaurin is serviced by Malaga Airport (AGP), and direct flights depart from most UK city airports all year round with a flight time of approximately three hours. Malaga Airport provides duty free shopping, bars, restaurants, currency exchange and car hire facilities. Transfer time is just over 30 minutes and the taxi fare should be approximately 60 euros (£48). There is a taxi rank at Terminal 3 and fares should be arranged with the driver before setting off.

Buses are also available from the airport to Malaga bus station and then another bus can be taken to Alhaurin. You can independently book a private shuttlebus online 24 hours prior to arriving. Car hire is another economical and convenient option especially if you plan to explore Costa del Sol; major roads are in good condition with driving on the right. Cars can be independently booked online at a price of around 90 euros (£72) per week.

The best beaches in Alhaurin

If you love large unspoilt beaches lapped by exceptionally clear waters then you really are spoilt for choice in the Costa del Sol. The beaches along this coastline are recognised as some of the best beaches in Spain. Many have been awarded the European Blue Flag status and you can take your pick from lively resort beaches or untouched little coves and bays. These beaches, and the record breaking sunshine levels, are the reason you will want to return to the Costa del Sol every year.

In around 20 minutes you can be sitting on a sun lounger on beautiful La Cala de Mijas. This 2000 metre long beach is favoured by families due to the many facilities along the promenade including restaurants and beach bars. Life guards are in attendance and the shallow waters are safe for children to play in. Sun loungers, parasols and changing facilities are available on this fine sand beach.

Funny Beach in lively Marbella definitely lives up to its name, and this is the place to go for watersports such as jet skiing, canoeing, windsurfing and banana boats. The beach is also a great place to lounge on a deck chair and enjoy a drink from one of the beach bars. An amusement park is located right next to the beach and is the place to go for miniature golf and go karting.

For a more relaxed and secluded beach try Playa El Saladillo near Estepona. This is a favourite beach with the locals and is hidden enough that it never gets too busy, even during the height of summer. There are a few beach bars and restaurants but not too many to spoilt the tranquil atmosphere of this beautiful little beach.
