Novo Sancti Petri Holidays
Novo Sancti Petri Holidays – Purpose built luxury
Purpose built as a top-end resort, Novo Sancti Petri is said to have the largest number of hotel beds in the province of Cadiz and the Costa de la Luz, about twenty of which are luxury hotels of four or five stars. It also has the well-respected Seve Ballesteros-designed golf course, one of a number of championship level courses, laid out on typical Andalusian golfing land, with coastal views and umbrella pine forests.
But you don’t have to be a golf aficionado to enjoy Novo Sancti Petri; you can try your hand at jet-skiing, wind-surfing or diving, with equipment and lessons from the local marina. If all this sporting life becomes too much, you can enjoy a lunch of local tapas or an exotic tajine or cous-cous from North Africa, from one of the many Spanish and Moroccan-style restaurants in the resort.
For a day excursion everyone will recommend Jerez de la Frontera, which gave its name to Sherry wine, and while there’s no doubt that you will have a great time visiting the bodegas, those in the know opt for a day in Sanlucar de Barrameda, a beautiful town where the bodegas produce the finest fino, the crystal-clear sherry that is a wonderful pre-dinner aperitivo.
It needs no saying that a holiday in Novo Sancti Petri is for those who enjoy the finer things in life; beautiful surroundings, splendid cuisine, and heart-warming wines.
When to go to Novo Sancti Petri
Whenever you want! The summers are gorgeous, the winters mild, and spring and autumn a delight. It simply depends on what sort of holiday you are looking for.
If you go during July and August you will be hard pushed to find a space on La Barrosa, the best local beach, between the German and Spanish visitor, but be Español and make a long weekend of it out of season, and you will have a fabulous time.
If you are a follower of the sport of kings you absolutely must see the horse racing along the beach at Sanlucar de Barrameda, an hour’s drive north. This is no donkey derby, but a highly professional race that has been taking place every year since 1845. From 6pm on the second and fourth weekends in August, top-level horses and riders from around the world race along the stands. There is the whole panoply of a major racing event; spectator stands, bookmakers, paddocks and, of course, the winner’s enclosure. It is equally as noticeable for the famous faces amongst the spectators as it is for the colours of the owner’s silks.
Weather in Novo Sancti Petri
There is rarely a complaint about the weather in the Novo Sancti Petri – other than it may get a bit too hot in summer. If you are used to a British July, March to May will seem positively high summer to you, but this is just when the Costa de la Luz is beginning to warm up. The cooling months of September and October are the best times to visit if you want to make the most of the exceptional golf courses and glorious countryside. Rain and cloud inevitably occur, but they are mainly in the winter months and quickly pass. No looking out of the winder at yet another grey day!

Beaches
La Barrosa is the beach that dominates the coastline of Novo Sancti Petri. It is a European Blue Flag beach, and the first thing you will notice is just how spotless it is, so it will come as no surprise that it is known as one of the best beaches on the whole of the coast of Andalucia. Eight kilometres of fine sand and crystal clear water, with protected dunes and shrubbery, it stretches from the El Puerco watchtower to Cano de Sancti Petri, and is the beach most favoured by the Spaniards themselves. There can’t be a better beach for families – it even has its own Red Cross and Police stations.
Take a stroll behind the beach and you will find wonderful bars and restaurants serving excellent seafood.
