Explore a real desert
The Sierra Alhamilla just north of Almeria town was the location for both Lawrence of Arabia and Sergio Leone Westerns and its easy to see why. The rugged, dry landscape perfectly doubles for the American West. The old film sets still remain as theme parks including Mini Holywood, where you can watch exciting re-enactments of life in the old west.
National Parks
There are several parks in the Almeria area. The Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park covers a huge area consisting of three very distinct and unique regions. Boasting salt marshes patrolled by flamingos, extinct volcanoes, caves and Europe's only native palm, the park has fascinating flora and fauna and stunning vistas.
Discover a historic city
Almeria, The capital of the region is a fascinating port once occupied by Romans and Moors. Overlooking the town, an ancient fortress, Alcazaba, is a must see and a peaceful refuge from the hustle and bustle of this busy, vibrant city that offers numerous shopping opportunities in varied stores and markets.
Beautiful beaches
The Costa de Almeria has the longest stretch of beaches in the Andalucia region making it the perfect destination for a relaxing beach holiday. From long, sweeping beaches to isolated coves there is plenty of opportunity for getting away from it all or taking advantage of the many beach activities on offer such as windsurfing, kite surfing and paragliding.
Discover traditional Spain
The Costa de Almeria has retained much of its original charm and many traditional Spanish towns and villages remain untouched by development. Sorbas is one of many such villages. Built into the edge of a deep ravine the location is stunning but the village is also worth visiting for its close proximity a series of natural caves.
Activities
As you might expect on a Spanish holiday, there are no shortage of Golf courses in the area, some in very picturesque locations. Beachside resorts offer the usual popular water sports. Other activities such as 4x4 safaris, go-karting and a number of water parks can be found on the Costa de Almeria.
