Cabo de Gata Holidays
Holidays in Cabo de Gata – A Spanish beauty spot
Cabo de Gata holidays are located in one of the most unspoilt areas of the Mediterranean. If you are looking to explore virgin beaches, whitewashed villages and enjoy activities such as scuba diving, golf and horse riding then Cabo de Gata will be perfect. The beauty of the Cabo de Gata Nijar Natural Park is one of the highlights but other sightseeing options include the fascinating city of Almeria and day trips to Morocco and Madrid. Spending lazy days by the hotel pool at resorts such as Carboneras is an alternative to the beaches, and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere of this region is much loved by families and couples.
When to go to Cabo de Gata
Cabo de Gata is popular year round thanks to the sunny climate but there are high and low seasons when the region becomes quieter and when discounted flights and hotels can be found. If you love sports then consider the spring and autumn months when the weather is comfortably warm rather than hot. The resorts do become busy during the summer, especially during the Easter, August and October school holidays, which can mean higher prices. Some hotels will close during the winter but not all, and there are alternative accommodation options including private apartments and villas at reduced prices during the quieter winter months.
The weather in Cabo de Gata
Cabo de Gata is famous for its hot, dry weather and you will not find a better climate anywhere in mainland Spain. Summers are hot with daytime temperatures of over 30 during the peak summer months and this region can still be hot during spring and autumn. Summer evenings are a warm 20C and rainfall is non existent during summer and very low throughout the year. The winter months are still warm at around 16C and swimming can be an option, which makes Cabo de Gata a very popular choice for winter sunshine holidays.

Top resorts in Cabo de Gata
One of the main draws of a Cabo de Gata holiday is that you are never far from some of the most beautiful beaches in Spain. The beaches in this region are breathtaking whether you are looking for isolated coves and bays or lively beach resorts. Golden sands, crystal clear Mediterranean waters and a peaceful ambience make this one of the most popular holiday destinations in Spain; one of the best climates in Europe is an additional bonus.
The resort of Carboneras boasts its own beautiful beaches but a trip to the nearby Playa de los Muertos beach, which has been voted by Spaniards as the best beach in Spain, is a must. Accessible only by footpath this beach has been described as the equivalent of the beaches found in the Caribbean; the views from the top of the surrounding cliffs are breathtaking. Naturism is permitted here and provisions should be taken as there are no services at this beach.
Consider Roquetas de Mar for a resort with a lively atmosphere, beautiful beaches and activities such as golf, watersports and water parks. Roquetas de Mar is also a great base from which to explore the untouched beaches at the Cabo de Gata Nijar Natural Park. The seafront does become lively at night and the many bars, restaurants and nightclubs will make for a great night out.
Mojacar is another Cabo de Gata resort that boasts a large beach but with plenty of smaller secluded beaches nearby.
This is very family friendly resort and one of the best for simply relaxing on a sun lounger on the safe Blue Flag awarded beach. As with most of the Costa Almeria resorts the seafront area is the place for restaurants and bars serving traditional and modern cuisine.
