Airport and Transport Need to Know
Flights to Tossa de Mar are via Gerona (GRO), and transfer time is about 1 hour. Flight time is between 2 and 2.5 hours, and there are regular departures from London Gatwick, Luton, Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, East Midlands, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds Bradford, Humberside, Liverpool, Glasgow and Prestwick. Gerona Airport is a fairly small airport, with just a handful of shops, but serves the whole of the Costa Brava, so can be busy during the peak season.
Transfers are generally included on package holidays, but there is a good shuttle bus service that travels to Tossa de Mar, and taxis are available from outside the airport. Each taxi can hold 4 passengers and their luggage (with larger cars available on request), and the journey to Tossa de Mar costs a fixed rate of around 50 euros (40GBP). Car hire is available too, and getting to the resort and exploring the area is straightforward.

Best beach for sunbathing - Playa Gran
The main beach at Tossa de Mar sits in a horseshoe shaped bay, and has sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, and the fully developed Blue Flag Playa Gran has activities and water sports such as pedaloes, water skiing, parasailing, coastal cruises and fishing trips, as well as a host of bars and cafes.
Best beach for activities - Mar Menuda
The resort's other Blue Flag beach, is situated in the northern part of Tossa de Mar, and boasts course sand and crisp clear water. The rocky peninsula that sits at one end of the beach means great conditions for snorkelling and scuba diving (the local dive school is located here), and kayaking and canoeing are popular around the nearby coves.
Best beach for isolation - Cala Futadera
For a day of quiet reflection, head 6km north of Tossa de Mar to Cala Futadera, a stunningly beautiful beach hidden amongst huge cliffs and surrounded by unspoiled pine forests. There are no facilities here, and access is down some very steep steps, but if it's a spectacular natural setting you're after, it's well worth the climb down.
