Tamariu Holidays - An idyllic escape on the rugged Costa Brava

Perfect if you’re looking for a quiet holiday on Spain's rugged Costa Brava, the idyllic beach resort of Tamariu offers a peaceful escape for both couples and families alike. The picturesque setting and authentic village charm make Tamariu a great choice for a peaceful getaway, which remains a world away from the busier and more developed resorts along the coast, such as Lloret de Mar or Estartit. The beach at Tamariu is truly one of the best in the area, and sits in a sheltered bay amongst lush green pine forests, boasting wonderfully clean sand and clear crisp water. The village exudes traditional Catalan charm, making for a memorable week or two away strolling along the promenade, cycling along the coastal paths, and whiling away the hours in the Spanish bars, waterfront restaurants and open-air cafes.

The best beaches in Tamariu

This stretch of coastline sees some amazing little coves and inlets, with the glorious beach at Tamariu one of the best around. Take a drive and discover other gems in the area, from glorious Blue Flag sandy beaches, to tiny idyllic hideaways. Here are our picks for the best three beaches in and around the resort.

Best beach for sunbathing - Playa Tamariu

The Blue Flag beach at Tamariu has a spectacular setting, positioned in a sheltered south-facing bay, and tucked into rugged pine-clad cliffs. Wonderfully clean sands and crystal-clear waters add to the appeal here, and the tranquil atmosphere offers real peace and quiet on this undeveloped section of the coast. Ideal for a relaxing day in the sun, you can rent sun beds and umbrellas, and there are convenient restaurants, cafes and bars behind the beach.

Best beach for activities - Playa de Llafranc

Llafranc's main beach, 5km south of Tamarui, sits in a delightful horseshoe-shaped bay backed by pine forests, and offers a number of activities, as well as sunbathing and swimming. Windsurfing is available, as is scuba-diving (there is a choice of dive centres here), and the Yacht Club has sailboats for rent, as well as crewed boats and coastal cruises.

Best beach for isolation - Cala d'Aigua Xelida

This tiny cove offering a tranquil base lies just north of Tamariu. There are no facilities here, just parking, and the natural beauty of this rather wild and untamed stretch, set in deep rugged cliffs, makes it a haven for those in search of the ultimate getaway.
