The best time for a Platja d’Aro holiday is between May and October, when the weather is glorious, and the tourist season is in full swing. July and August see high demand for Platja d’Aro holidays, and is generally the best time for families, especially if you want to ensure there are plenty of other children at the resort. You need to book early for these peak season weeks, however, and expect crowded beaches and high prices. If you go to Platja d’Aro in May, June, September and October, you can still expect lovely warm weather, but see cheaper prices, as well as a more relaxed atmosphere, with fewer crowds.

During the tourist season, there’s an average daily temperature of 25C and up to 10 hours of sunshine, with highs reaching 29C-30C in July and August, and an average night-time temperature of 18C. Thanks to its southerly position on the Costa Brava, Platja d’Aro can often see better low-season weather than other resorts in the north, with spring and autumn months enjoying temperatures of 20C – 25C, and around 7 hours of daily sun.

Airport and Transport Need to Know
Fly into Gerona Airport (GRO) – just a 2-2.5 journey from the UK, with the transfer to the resort just 40 minutes. There are plenty of departures from all the country’s regional airports, including London Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Manchester, East Midlands, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow and Prestwick. Gerona Airport is a small airport located 35km from Platja d’Aro, which serves the whole of the Costa Brava.
Transfers are included on package holidays, and there are shuttle buses, taxis and car hire from the airport. Taxis carry a maximum of 4 passengers, with larger vehicles available on request, and the fixed rate to Platja d’Aro costs around 50 euros (40GBP). Car hire is available from the airport, and is a great way to get out and explore the area.

Best beach for activities – Platja d’Aro
Known as one of the liveliest beaches on the whole of the Costa Brava, the main beach in the resort remains hugely popular. There’s never a dull moment, thanks to organised events and entertainment, and a huge range of varied water sports available, from jet skiing to sailing, on this glorious 2km stretch of golden sands.
Best beach for sunbathing – Sant Pol
For a change from the main beach, head south to S’Agaro and the lovely Sant Pol, a Blue Flag stretch of fine sand in an exclusive area, which boasts not only a picturesque setting in which to soak up some rays, but also a protected nature area, and some excellent seafood restaurants.
Best beach for isolation – Sant Antoni de Calonge
