Here are our picks for the best three beaches in and around Palafrugell:
Best beach for sunbathing - Playa de Canadell
The 200m Blue Flag Playa de Canadell is the longest in the resort, and a great place on which to soak up the sunshine, as well as enjoy the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean that lap the shores. There are also a couple of bars and restaurants for much-needed refreshments, with the promise of a cold drink and the local catch of the day excellent motivation to get up off the lounger.
Best beach for activities - Playa de Llafranc
Llafranc's main beach lies just 3km south from Palafrugell, and sits in a delightful horseshoe-shaped bay backed by pine forests, offering a truly idyllic spot for a day trip. Best beach for isolation - Playa de Tamariu
Tamariu, between Palafrugell and Begur, lies just a couple of kilometres away, and is the perfect beach for peaceful sunbathing. The beach sits in a sheltered south-facing bay, and offers seclusion and tranquillity, thanks to limited development along this stretch of coastline, with the beautiful setting amongst lush pine-clad cliffs really adding to the charm.
