When to go
A haven for sun-worshippers, Lloret de Mar sees excellent weather from May to October, with the summers being the best time of year for this Mediterranean hotspot. The peak season months of July and August are by far the busiest, and the most expensive, so it's worth planning your holiday to Lloret de Mar at the beginning or the end of the summer, to get the best value for money. You can also head there in the winter for a really cheap break, when the weather is mild but still sunny, and the vibe is much quieter.
The weather in Lloret de Mar
Lloret de Mar has a typically Mediterranean climate, with long hot summers and mild winters, but thanks to its location on Spain's northern Costa Brava, offers slightly cooler temperatures than other holiday resorts in the south. Summer temperatures reach 29C in July and August, with the sun shining for 9 hours each day, and even the months of May, June, September and October experience pleasant highs of between 22C - 24C, with at least 6 hours of daily sunshine. Night-time temperatures in summer hover around 18C – great temperature for going to open air bars, discos and terraces each evening.
Getting the best deal

Airport and transport need to know
Flights to Lloret de Mar are via Gerona Airport (GRO), with the resort also accessible from Barcelona Airport (BCN). Flight time is between 2 and 2.5 hours, and transfer time to the resort from Gerona is only 35 minutes. You can fly to Gerona from a range of regional airports, such as London Gatwick, Luton, Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, East Midlands, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds Bradford, Humberside, Liverpool, Glasgow and Prestwick.
Although it serves the whole of the Costa Brava, Gerona Airport is a fairly small airport, with a few shops, some selling duty-free goods. Transfers are usually included on a package holidays, but if not, there is a good shuttle bus service, and taxis are available from outside the airport. Each taxi can hold 4 passengers and their luggage (with larger cars available on request), and the journey to Lloret de Mar costs a fixed rate of around 50 euros (40 GBP). Car hire is available too, and driving the 28km to the resort is straightforward and well signposted.

Best beach for activities - Playa Lloret de Mar
Ideally placed right in the middle of the resort, Playa Lloret de Mar has everything you need, and more. There are sunbeds and umbrellas to rent, plenty of bars, cafes and ice-cream parlours for much-needed refreshment, as well as a host of round-the-clock activities, including fun-filled games and a varied selection of water sports, such as banana boat rides, windsurfing, water skiing, kitesurfing, ski rafting, parasailing, scuba diving, snorkelling and boat trips.
Best beach for sunbathing - Playa Fenals
Located just a kilometre west is the smaller Playa Fenals, a course sand beach in a lovely sheltered bay, with calm waters for swimming and water sports. Here, you can do as much, or as little as you like, as it’s less crowded than the main town beach and more low-key. The beach boasts a picturesque setting in a protected cove, where you can soak up the Spanish sunshine on your sun bed, or cool off in the clear, sparkling waters of the Mediterranean.
Best beach for isolation - Cala Boadella
For a complete change of scene, head to the unspoilt Cala Boadella, a gem of a beach set amongst rocky coves. Accessible by a hidden footpath, the atmosphere here is much quieter, and the sparkling clear waters, fine sand and tranquil setting really add to the charm.
