The best time for a package holiday to Llofriu is during the Costa Brava tourist season, which runs from May to October. May, June and September all see glorious temperatures and plenty of sunshine, with the cooler weather meaning perfect conditions for getting out and exploring the countryside. July and August are the busiest months to travel, getting booked up well in advance, and tend to see high prices as well as high temperatures. Llofriu experiences a typically Mediterranean climate, with its location inland meaning slightly cooler temperatures than the coastal resorts. The town sees long hot summers and mild winters, and the tourist season is dry, with limited rainfall. There’s an average daily temperature of 24C, and an average night-time temperature of 18C, with highs reaching 29C-30C in July and August, and the sun shining for as much of 10 hours each day. Spring and autumn enjoy temperatures of 20C – 23C, and around 7 hours of daily sun, and the months of April and October can see showers.

Airport and Transport Need to Know
Flights are into Gerona Airport, which is just 25km from Llofriu. The flight time from the UK is 2-2.5 hours, and there are plenty of departures from a number of regional airports, including London Gatwick, London Heathrow, Stansted, Luton, Manchester, East Midlands, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow and Prestwick. Although Gerona Airport is fairly small, it serves the whole of the Costa Brava, and has grown rapidly to accommodate demand.
Getting to the town is easy and takes 20 minutes from the airport. Taxis are available and can take 4 passengers, with the journey to Llofriu costing around 40 euros (30GBP). Car hire is available (Avis, Europa and Economy can be found at the airport), and renting a car is recommended, being the best way to get to the village, and explore the surrounding areas.
Best beaches around Llofriu
A holiday in Llofriu can incorporate a trip to the glorious beaches of the Costa Brava - known as the ‘Wild Coast’, thanks to its rugged and dramatic shoreline. There are a number of Blue Flag beaches well within reach, with the coastline offering everything from non-stop entertainment, sports and activities, to tranquil spots for peaceful sunbathing.
Best beach for sunbathing – Playa de Canadell
Just a few kilometres from Llofriu, the main beach at Palafrugell offers a wonderful base for a day’s sunbathing. Playa de Canadell enjoys Blue Flag status, with its scenic fishing village location adding to the charm.
Best beach for activities – Playa de Llafranc
For some more energetic pursuits, head to Playa de Llafranc, and try one of the many different activities on offer, from windsurfing to sailing. Scuba-diving enthusiasts can embark on a trip to one of the best dive sites along the coast, the Illes Medes, where you’ll find excellent snorkelling, too.
Best beach for isolation – Playa Tamariu
Find a quiet cove around the unspoilt resort of Tamariu, such as Aigua Xelida, for a classic Mediterranean scene. This tiny rocky inlet has no services, and offers the perfect spot for a secluded day at the beach.
