Blanes Holidays - Relaxed family getaways on the Costa Brava
Located on the beautiful Costa Brava on Spain's north-eastern coast, holidays in Blanes feature a relaxed base with true Catalan character, and the chance for a family-friendly getaway, in a resort that remains popular with the locals.
Blanes lies at the southern end of the coastline, and is often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Costa Brava', with this working fishing port offering a long stretch of golden sands, a convenient promenade, a modern marina and a host of traditional shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.
There's plenty to see and do, from exploring the rugged coastline and touring the historic old town, to enjoying a day trip to the Botanical Gardens or Waterworld. Perfect for both families and couples, Blanes is an ideal choice for a laid-back, traditional resort on the Costa Brava, and offers a great range of accommodation options, to suit all budgets.
When to go to Blanes
Like all resorts along the Spanish coastline, the best time to visit Blanes is during the summer months, ensuring guaranteed weather and long hours of sunshine each day. The peak season months of July and August do get booked up very quickly, and see plenty of crowds along the busy beaches and in and around the tourist resorts, so why not try a week or two in late spring, early summer or autumn for a relaxing getaway?
The weather is still good enough in May or September for sunbathing and swimming, and at this time you can also enjoy coastal walks and outdoor activities, thanks to the cooler temperatures.
The weather in Blanes
Blanes sees typically Mediterranean weather, with fantastic conditions for a beach holiday. The resort's location on the Costa Brava means it escapes the searing heat experienced by other resorts further south, making for more comfortable conditions, especially in high season.
The summer season runs from May to October, with the average temperature hovering around 25C, and between 6-9 hours of sunshine each day. Peak season months of July and August can see highs of almost 30C, whilst spring and autumn temperatures hover between 20C - 24C. Mild weather from November to April also makes Blanes an attractive option for escaping the cold winter months.

The best beaches in Blanes
The resort runs for 4k along the southern coastline of the Costa Brava, and boasts family-friendly sandy bays, as well as hidden rocky coves, ideal for both fun in the sun and quiet sunbathing. There are a number of good beaches to visit in this fishing town, but here are our choices for the best three in Blanes:
Best beach for activities - S'Abanell
The longest beach in the Costa Brava, S'Abanell is understandably the most popular in the resort, with golden sands stretching for 2.5km, and extending all the way to the rocky peninsula at Sa Palomera. Try one of the water sports on offer, such as windsurfing, water skiing, sailing or parasailing, or take a boat ride, cruise or fishing trip along the coast. The beach is also backed by a convenient promenade and bike path, and there are numerous bars and restaurants for much-needed refreshment throughout the day.
Best beach for sunbathing - Playa de Blanes
The town beach, Playa de Blanes is located right in the centre of the resort, and offers a well-placed base for a day by the sea. A 600m stretch of sand, the beach is attractive and well-equipped, and the host of facilities, such as sun-beds, umbrellas, showers and life guards, make Playa de Blanes a convenient spot in which to soak up the glorious Spanish sunshine.
Best beach for isolation - Cala Treumal
Just below the Botanical Gardens at the northern part of Blanes, the tiny Cala Treumal is an unspoilt beach backed by a beautiful pine forest. Just 100m long, the beach is accessible via a footpath that runs throughout the trees, and offers a complete change from the busier areas in Blanes. Quiet and secluded, this picturesque sandy beach boasts a delightful setting and an authentic Spanish charm, and remains an ideal spot for a peaceful day's sunbathing.
