Villajoyosa Holidays
Villajoyosa Holidays - Jewel of the Costa Blanca
While some resorts along the Costa Blanca are characterised by modern hotels and smart apartment blocks, Villajoyosa, or ‘the jewelled town’, offers a very different holiday experience. This traditional Spanish coastal town has retained its charm and authenticity, so provides visitors with a real taste of Spain, alongside all the pleasures of a sunny, welcoming seaside resort. Alicante airport is only 30 km away.
Holidays to Villajoyosa - Traditional Spanish hospitality and famous fiesta
At Villajoyosa you’ll find a white sandy beach complete with gently swaying palm trees, and azure waters. In the town centre behind are pretty, coloured houses, much traditional architecture, bustling shopping streets around a town square, and a fascinating fish market. There’s also a busy fishing harbour, still a focal point for the town and its inhabitants, and a yacht club. The historic old quarter of Villajoyosa, known as of Vila Joiosa, has recently been restored to its former glory.
In the last week of July the Moors and Christians Festival takes place in Villajoyosa. This is a dramatic re-enactment of the defeat of the Algerian pirate Zala Arráez, who in 1538 attempted to raid the town. During the week-long festival locals can be seen dressed as either Moorish pirates or valiant Christian defenders. Fireworks, music, street carnivals, food and drink all contribute to this great example of the Spanish fiesta in full swing.
Villajoyosa Holidays - Just south of holiday haven Benidorm
From Villajoyosa’s small port, holiday makers can set off on a day trip to Benidorm, just a few kilometres along the shoreline to the north. Benidorm offers all the excitement and choice of a large resort. There’s the chance to stroll the seafront, enjoy a leisurely lunch or make use of the water-sports facilities including a sailing school and several scuba diving schools. Nearby Mediterranean theme park Terra Mítica is bound to be big hit with the family.
