Puerto Santiago Holidays

Puerto de Santiago holidays – Something for everyone!
Puerto de Santiago is on the quieter west coast of Tenerife, situated between Los Gigantes and Playa De La Arena. This area of the island’s coast is loved for its spectacular natural beauty and relative calm, just a short drive from lively, vibrant Playa De Las Americas, so it’s perfect if you like a choice of laid back and lively. You’ll enjoy fabulous sunbathing, with views of the stunning Los Gigantes cliffs from the resort’s pretty little volcanic sand beaches. And nearby Playa De La Arena enjoys an enormous, spotless Blue Flag beach. The resort is great for dolphin spotting out at sea and features plenty of eateries serving traditional Canary Islands cuisine, based around delicious freshly caught fish. Mount Teide National Park provides a retreat from the heat and you’ll adore Masca, a nearby hillside town with a truly magical atmosphere. Plus there’s Aqua parks and Loro Parque for the kids, ideal for family Puerto de Santiago holidays.
When to go
Like most of Tenerife, holidays to Puerto de Santiago are well-loved because of its wonderful all-year-round weather. Low-key, peaceful and relaxing, it’s ideal for mellow holidays. The temperature rarely drops below 60C and it often hits the 80C mark, but the resort’s cooling sea breezes keep humidity to a minimum. There are masses of visitors throughout the summer high season and winter is also busy, with lovely warm weather. Bear in mind that the winter evenings can get chilly, and take a woolly just in case.

Getting the best deal
Puerto de Santiago is a popular holiday destination for British families and couples all year round because of the reliably good weather. As with many resorts it tends to be cheaper off-season, when the children are at school, and you’ll find some excellent last minute bargains as well as great prices for booking a decent amount of time in advance. Winter holidays are popular with older people so if you want to party the nights away in one of the livelier resorts nearby, it’s probably best to visit in the high season, between July and September. Airport and transport need to know
There are two airports on the island but you’ll fly into Tenerife South Airport, Reina Sofia (TFS), about an hour and a half from Puerto de Santiago by road. Most tour operators include airport transfers in the price but if not, the long journey from the airport to the resort means it can be an expensive business by taxi at around £60 per person. It’s much cheaper to take the bus, and there’s a good regular service between the airport and the resort. You can pick up a shared shuttle bus from around £20 per person from any number of private transfer operators, or pick up a local bus for about £8 each. Here’s a link to the local bus timetable: http://www.titsa.com/index.php?idioma=1
You can also pick up a hire car from the airport. Just bear in mind Canarians drive on the right and the roads around the coast, and up to Mount Tiede, can be quite scary, with enormous cliff drops.
