When to go to Los Gigantes

Holidays to Los Gigantes are most popular, and cost more, during the school holidays but the superb climate means it’s a great holiday destination all year round. First developed in the 1960s, the resort is a top choice with British holidaymakers and ex-pats as well as an excellent base from which to explore the rest of this fascinating island. Because it’s a relatively small resort it’s generally quieter than many, more so off-season when you can pick up some excellent bargains and still enjoy amazing amounts of warm sunshine.

Airport and transport need to know

Los Gigantes, like all the resorts on Tenerife, is served by Tenerife South airport, also called Reina Sofia (TFS). The island’s other airport, Tenerife North, is mainly used for internal and commercial flights. Tenerife is such a popular year-round destination that you’ll find direct flights from any number of regional and major UK airports including Edinburgh, Bristol, Leicestershire, Knock, Cork, Birmingham and Manchester.

If you hire a car, hop on a shuttle bus, take a taxi or get a local bus, the island’s rocky, mountainous interior means the transfer takes at least an hour and a quarter along the coastal TF-1 motorway, even though it’s only about 30 miles. Return journeys cost around £8 each by shuttle bus for a single journey, approximately £48 by taxi. If you hire a car, bear in mind they drive on the right on Tenerife and the roads, particularly away from the coast, can be scary, with mighty drops and dramatic, snaking curves.
