Costa Adeje Holidays – A very popular Tenerife beach resort

Costa Adeje is Playa de las Americas’ quieter, more laid back cousin, a stunning stretch of Tenerife coastline studded by a higher than average concentration of new five star hotels. The area covers the Veronicas, Puerto Colon, Torviscas, Fanabe, Playa del Duque and La Caleta. It’s perfect for families and older couples, a classic sun, sea and sand destination focusing on beach-led breaks. It’s smart, purpose built and clean, a feast for the eyes with magnificent architecture and beautiful Bougainvillea blooming all around. The old town of Adeje, the nearby administrative centre, displays a different side of the island, a practical place where locals live and work. And nearby Barranco del Infierno, which translates as Hell’s Gorge, provides a dramatic day trip when you tire of the beach. On Costa Adeje holidays you’ll discover a wealth of excellent restaurants serving international and local dishes. Puerto Colom harbour and marina, plus Los Gigantes marina, are popular day trip destinations.

When to go to Costa Adeje

More than six million tourists enjoy Tenerife every year. Holidays to Costa Adeje early in the year involve wonderfully warm weather and relative peace and quiet: it’s easy to understand why it’s affectionately known as the ‘land of eternal spring'. There’s a short lull in early December, when you can pick up some really good hotel deals, but things liven up again at Christmas as British tourists avoid the UK winter. Like many places, flights are at their most expensive during the school summer holidays, but ironically hotel prices are often cheaper because Spanish holidaymakers prefer self-catering. There isn’t an off season as such, although the rains traditionally arrive every November and mainly affect the North of the island, often falling at night.

The weather in Costa Adeje

The climate in Costa Adeje only changes slightly as the year progresses. It’s hottest from May until October, with May temperatures reaching as high as 25C and the hottest sunshine in July, August and September, often hitting 30C and above, occasionally 40 degrees. Expect around eleven hours of wonderful sunshine very day through summer, tempered by cooling onshore sea breezes that can take the temperature down to a comfortable 20 degrees. While it rains late in the year, rainfall is very rare indeed at other times of year. Outside of summer, the weather is almost always gloriously spring-like. Christmas, New Year and Easter breaks deliver sunshine too, with temperatures around 20 degrees during the day and at least six hours’ sunshine a day, a little cooler at night.

Airport and transport need to know

The island has two international airports, Reina Sofia (TFS) and Los Rodeos (TFN). Most international flights land at Tenerife South airport, which can become very busy indeed in the summer. From the UK you can fly direct from a broad range of major and regional airports including all the London airports, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Newcastle and Edinburgh.  So you should be able to find a flight from an airport near home. You can hire a car at the airport, or treat yourself to a trip on the island’s clean, comfortable and efficient buses.

If you hire a car on your package holidays to Costa Adeje, bear in mind that the island’s coastal roads can be hair-raising, with steep cliff drops to the ocean, and they drive on the right. If you catch a taxi between the airport and Costa Adeje, it should cost around 25 Euros depending on the time of day or night, season, amount of luggage and final destination.
