Playa Taurito holidays – The perfect beach resort complement to picturesque Puerto Mogan

Playa Taurito is a neat little resort with a good sandy beach designed for quiet sunbathing. Sea-view hotels are located on low hills sloping steeply up from the bay. Good quality accommodation is a short stroll from a car-free promenade with pleasant gardens and a fabulous lido swimming pool. The evening scene is peaceful. A couple of bars and restaurants offer a quiet alternative to all-inclusive holiday entertainment.

 

Playa Taurito rarely feels crowded and combines perfectly with neighbouring Puerto Mogan to offer two relaxing family holiday beaches. Neighbouring Puerto Mogan is one of the prettiest and most atmospheric resorts on Gran Canaria. Stroll the colourful narrow streets of Mogan resort centre and explore a pretty yacht harbour with smart bars and romantic restaurants. In the other direction is all the non-stop fun of Puerto Rico. A whole string of attractive beaches and family attractions are easily reached on cheap local buses and coastal ferries.

 

When to go to Playa Taurito  

You can enjoy beach holidays to Playa Taurito at any time of year thanks to beautifully warm sunny winter weather. The resort gets busier in peak summer but still retains a pleasantly laid–back atmosphere. Neighbouring Puerto Mogan sees a lot of summer day-trippers but very few make it along the coast to Playa Taurito.

 

The proximity of Puerto Mogan makes Playa Taurito a particularly rewarding destination outside of the main beach holiday seasons. Mogan’s charming harbour and stylish bars provide more variety than many of Taurito’s beach resort neighbours. A very peaceful winter destination and beautiful in spring, when the weather is perfect for excursions and quiet beach holiday relaxation.

 

The weather in Playa Taurito.

South-west coast resorts like Playa Taurito get the very best of the weather on Gran Canaria. Winter weather is far warmer and sunnier than mainland Spain. Conditions remain amazingly similar throughout the year. Temperatures around 20º delight visitors escaping the British winter. Winter sunshine averages 7 hours a day.

 

Spring is a gorgeous time, with gardens and parks in bloom. Temperatures hit the high 20’s by June and stay that way until early October. July and August see long days of uninterrupted sunshine but the heat never feels extreme. Outdoor bars and restaurant terraces enjoy gorgeous summer evening temperatures around 20º.

 

Getting the best deal to Playa Taurito

For the widest choice of hotels and self-catering apartments you should plan and book well in advance. Leave it late in peak summer and you may find many of the best-rated accommodation is fully booked. There is far less accommodation here than large resorts like Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles. Airport and transport need to know

Package holidays to Playa Taurito typically depart from London, Manchester and Birmingham. Also flights from regional airports like Liverpool, Glasgow, Newcastle, Bristol and Cardiff. Flight time is about 4 hours 15 minutes.

 

You fly to Gran Canaria Airport, also known as Las Palmas Airport (LPA). The airport has a small collection of shops, bars and restaurants. A transfer to Playa Taurito will take 45-60 minutes. You can take a bus for about €7 (₤6). www.globalsu.net. An airport taxi to Playa Taurito should cost about €72-82 (₤60-68). Taxis are metered.

 

Self-drive visitors will find it a straightforward journey on a good motorway. Take care on narrow twisting roads in the mountains. Busy central Las Palmas is best avoided. Drive on the right. Cheap local buses are great for exploring a string of attractive beaches from Puerto Mogan to Maspalomas. Ferries also travel up and down the coast. A taxi home from Puerto Mogan is cheap.

 

The best beaches in Playa Taurito

Gran Canaria excels when it comes to relaxing family beaches with well-maintained facilities and easy access to hotels. There is always an area with sunbeds and parasols. Showers and toilets are also standard. Beach promenades are well designed and often continue to the next resort. Affordable bars and restaurants are usually a very short distance from the beach. Perhaps the only thing missing is the wide open wilderness beaches of islands like Fuerteventura.

 

Playa Taurito is the first of a string of small-scale family resorts stretching east from Puerto Mogan towards Meloneras. Some beaches have been lovingly created with imported sand while others are natural dark volcanic sand. All are easy to reach on buses, ferries and coast paths.

 

The black sand beach at Playa Taurito is good for couples and families with small children. A sheltered spot for relaxed sunbathing. There is a scuba diving centre and some watersports in the summer season. A small public park with jogging tracks. Cars are kept well out of sight and the resort is calm and peaceful at night. An added bonus is the Playa Taurito Lido with its large lagoon-style swimming pool and well-laid out gardens. (charge)

 

Cheap regular buses run to next door Puerto Mogan and a very sheltered sandy beach on a pretty bay. Great for swimming and snorkelling. Another excellent dive school and excursions on the famous yellow submarine. Puerto Mogan restaurants are considered the best in the region. You also have all the interest of the harbour and the pretty town centre with its canals and bridges.

 

For a taste of the Canaries at their liveliest head into Puerto Rico. This is one of the busiest resorts on Gran Canaria. Not quite as hectic or as youth-oriented as Playa del Ingles, but still offering lots to do and inexhaustible nightlife. Also worth a day trip are the impressive wild sand dunes at Maspalomas.
