The weather in Playa del Cura

Warm sunny winters and comfortably hot sunny summers. There’s nothing very complicated about Gran Canaria weather! Expect temperatures around 20º in winter, rising to the mid 20’s in spring and the high 20’s in summer. Beautifully warm water makes for relaxed swimming and snorkelling throughout the year.

 

This south-western corner of Gran Canaria has a phenomenal sunshine record. That means long hours of beach holiday sunshine is guaranteed whenever you travel. The seafront bars and restaurants of next door Amadores Beach are the favourite place to enjoy gorgeous summer evening temperatures around 20º. You should find economical holidays to Gran Canaria at any time of year. We strongly recommend starting your holiday search well in advance if looking for holidays to Playa del Cura in peak summer or the busy Easter and Christmas holiday periods. There is a far less accommodation here than resorts like Playa del Ingles so the most popular apartments and hotels fill quickly.

Airport and transport need to know

Package holidays to Playa del Cura fly to Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) (sometimes referred to as Las Palmas).  A modern airport with basic shops and a few bars and restaurants. London, Manchester and Birmingham are the busiest departure airports. You should also find flights from regional airports like Liverpool, Newcastle, Bristol, Cardiff and Glasgow. Flight time from the UK is about 4 hours 15 minutes.

 

A transfer to Playa del Cura takes about 60 minutes. Public transport bus costs about €7 (£6) www.globalsu.net. Airport taxis are metered and should charge around €57-66 (£47-55). A motorway now extends all the way down to nearby Meloneras. Driving on Gran Canaria is straightforward but narrow interior mountain roads require care. The centre of Las Palmas can be congested.

 

Good local bus services are handy for visiting a string of attractive resorts between Puerto Mogan and Playa San Agustin. Taxis are great for a big night out in Puerto Rico.

 

The best beaches in Playa del Cura

Gran Canaria beaches are among the most popular in the Canaries. You can expect to find a well-maintained family beach with an area for sunbeds and parasols. Also toilets, showers and changing rooms. Most resorts have very affordable bars and restaurants on pleasant promenades a short distance from the beach. Swimming is safe as beaches usually shelve gently and the water is normally calm.

 

Beaches in the Playa Cura region are often set in sheltered coves with low surrounding cliffs. A mix of small family beaches and larger resorts, all easily accessed by local buses and easy coast paths.

 

Playa del Cura is a quiet beach with dark shingle and sand. A place for quiet sunbathing. Small children may prefer the firmer sand at neighbouring Amadores Beach. Both sections of Cura beach are close to a pleasant collection of restaurants. A good range of accommodation options on hilly ground close to the seafront. Quiet at night.

 

An easy walk from Playa del Cura takes you to Playa Amadores, one of the loveliest beaches in the area. This beautifully crafted horse shoe beach has soft sand and very restrained development. Another very clean beach with a quiet atmosphere. Romantic promenade cafés and bars are the perfect place to enjoy sensational sunsets Playa del Cura holidays can easily take in two more wonderfully contrasting resorts. To the east are the famous sand dunes of the Maspalomas nature reserve, and to the west is the picturesque fishing harbour of Puerto Mogan.

 

For total contrast head into Puerto Rico. This is one of the liveliest resorts on Gran Canaria.  Not as hectic as Playa del Ingles but still offering plenty to do in the day and an inexhaustible choice of restaurants and bars at night. An inexpensive taxi ride home for those who stay out late.
