We recommend booking well in advance. Holidays to Playa Amadores are very popular thanks to that wonderful beach and the proximity to Puerto Rico. There is a far smaller choice of accommodation than resorts like Playa del Ingles so the best hotels and apartments are often snapped up quickly. An early search is essential if travelling at Christmas, Easter or the school summer holidays. Look out for terrific bargains in winter and quiet holiday months like October and March. Airport and transport need to know

Package holidays to Playa Amadores use Gran Canaria Airport (LPA), also known as Las Palmas Airport.
A busy airport with essential shops and a few bars and restaurants. Plenty of flights from London, Manchester and Birmingham. You will also find flights from regional airports like Liverpool, Newcastle, Bristol, Cardiff and Glasgow. Flight time to Gran Canaria is about 4 hours 15 minutes.

A transfer to Playa Amadores takes around 1 hour. The journey by bus costs about €7 (£6) www.globalsu.net. Airport taxis are metered and should charge around €57-66 (£47-55) to Playa Amadores. Driving is very straightforward now the motorway extends down to neighbouring Meloneras. Drive cautiously and keep well to the right on narrow roads heading into the mountains. The centre of Las Palmas is best avoided.

There are excellent local bus services calling at all the resorts from Puerto Mogan to Playa del Ingles. A cheap taxi trip home from a Puerto Rico night out.

The best beaches in Playa Amadores

Gran Canaria beaches are among the most developed in the Canaries. This means you will always find a well-equipped family beach with sunbeds and parasols for hire and well-maintained toilets, showers and changing rooms. All resorts have plenty of bars and restaurants on pleasant promenades a short distance from the beach. Swimming is safe and beaches are well supervised. Large resorts like Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas offer additional beach areas catering for everyone from naturists to windsurfers.

Beaches in the Amadores region are often sheltered by small cliffs and are nicely varied in size and atmosphere. The distance between beaches is small so you can easily take in a number of popular resorts in the same holiday. Amadores is a 20 minute stroll from Puerto Rico.

Playa Amadores has been created with considerable care. A perfect 800m curve of soft sand backed by small cliffs and a scattering of palm trees. Remarkably different from Puerto Rico just along the coast. A relaxed family holiday atmosphere and restrained development. A very clean and safe beach ideal for children. For total contrast you only have to walk 20 minutes along the cliff path to Puerto Rico. This is one of the busiest and most popular resorts in the Canary Islands. Not as hectic or boisterous as Playa del Ingles but still enjoyably animated all year round. A long entertaining promenade is packed with shops, bars, cafes, restaurants, pubs and nightlife.

Playa Amadores holidays can easily include two more wonderfully contrasting beaches. Just 4km to the west is the charmingly picturesque fishing harbour of Puerto Mogan and to the east the strikingly wild sand dunes of the Maspalomas beach nature reserve. Both are easily reached by local buses.
