Meloneras Holidays
Meloneras holidays – Upmarket resort close to our most popular Gran Canaria beaches
Meloneras is the quietest of three contrasting resorts that together offer the best of the Gran Canaria holiday experience. A 15 minute walk takes you to the superb family holiday beach at Maspalomas and the impressive Maspalomas sand dune nature reserve. You also have easy access to the famously lively resort of Playa del Ingles. Meloneras is the most peaceful of the three resorts. It has its own spacious beach and some of the classiest bars and restaurants in the region.
This is a relatively new resort that is clearly aiming upmarket. You will find top quality hotels, a casino, a smart marina, a better class of shopping and a new golf course to complement the sea view course at Campo de Golf. Nightlife is a world away from raucous Playa del Ingles. Complement beach relaxation with boat trips, jeep safaris, mountain village excursions and top family attractions like Aqualand or Holiday World.
When to go to Meloneras
Weather is not an issue. Gran Canaria enjoys beach holiday sunshine all year round. Meloneras is quiet outside of the peak summer holiday season but next door Maspalomas has an enjoyably animated atmosphere throughout the year. Playa del Ingles is always lively. Meloneras restaurants are popular with locals so it never feels deserted.
Spring weather is an absolute delight. A great time for relaxed sunbathing. June to September sees day after day of perfect conditions but even winter sees long hours of warm sunshine. Holidays to Meloneras in autumn and early winter are good for peaceful beach relaxation and quiet fairways at Meloneras golf course.
The weather in Meloneras
The Canaries are Europe’s ultimate sunshine destination. Temperatures typically range from 20º to 30º and sunshine is guaranteed. Many Canary Island aficionados rate spring as the loveliest time to visit. Temperatures hit the mid 20’s as early as March. Seven hours of sunshine a day make for idyllic golf throughout the winter. Not bad for winter sunbathing too!
Average daytime temperatures are around 30º between June and late September. Nothing like the extremes of sunshine regions like Egypt but do take care of hot sand and shadeless suntraps in the Maspalomas dunes. Balmy summer evening highs of 20º are made for holiday romance.

Airport and transport need to know
Your holiday will begin at Gran Canaria Airport, also known as Las Palmas Airport (LPA). An efficient airport with a small collection of shops, bars and restaurants. A good proportion of Meloneras holidays depart from Manchester, London and Birmingham. Airlines like Thomas Cook and Ryanair fly from regional UK airports like Bristol, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow and Cardiff. Flight time is about 4 hours 15 minutes.
The 20 mile transfer to Meloneras takes 35 minutes. At least three public bus routes from the airport to Meloneras. Fare is just €4 (£3) www.globalsu.net. Metered airport taxis to Meloneras should cost around €40 (£33). A little more at night and weekends.
Self-drive is straightforward. A motorway links the airport with Meloneras. Be careful on mountain roads. Congested Las Palmas is best avoided. Drive on the right. Playa del Ingles nightlife is a cheap taxi trip. Good resort buses to beaches at Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles.
The best beaches in Meloneras
Gran Canaria beaches have something for everyone. Beaches are more developed than islands like Fuerteventura or Lanzarote. Popular resorts typically offer a choice of beach atmospheres. A good all-round family beach may be complemented by areas for naturists, walkers and watersports fans. The short distance between resorts in the south makes it easy to enjoy several different beaches in one holiday.
Beaches are invariably well maintained and well supervised. Expect to find sunbeds, parasols, toilets, showers, changing rooms and beach bars in the centre of the resort. Beaches around Meloneras are great for relaxed sunbathing, safe swimming and watersports like scuba diving and windsurfing.
Playa Meloneras is quieter than Playa Maspalomas. Sand quality is poorer but the beach has a far superior choice of restaurants and cafes with excellent sea views. No problem finding space even in peak summer. Pleasant promenade walks along low cliffs to the Pasita Blanca Marina. Upmarket shopping and some of the best south coast restaurants in the seafront El Faro centre.
A 15 minute stroll past the lighthouse takes you to Maspalomas, one of the best beaches on Gran Canaria. The central section is a broad family holiday beach of fine pale sand with good facilities. Maspalomas beach runs into the famous Maspalomas sand dunes, a protected nature reserve. Terrific seashore walks and quiet suntraps among the dunes. For restaurants and facilities stick close to Maspalomas or Playa del Ingles. Between is a scenic stretch of dunes with regularly spaced beach bars and sunbed hire.
Just the other side of Maspalomas is the famously lively resort of Playa del Ingles and its magnificent mile-and-a-half beach. The main resort area is enjoyably animated all year round. The entertaining promenade is packed with shops, restaurants, bars and nightlife venues. Good for watersports too.
