The weather in Campo de Golf
One of the sunniest places in Europe. Perfect weather for golf throughout the winter, with an average 7 hours of sunshine a day and temperatures around 20º. Spring is also idyllic. Do protect yourself from endless strong sunshine in the summer months if you out on the fairway.
Down on the beach daytime temperatures are around 30º between June and late September. Nothing too extreme but do take care of hot sand and shadeless suntraps in the Maspalomas dunes. Summer evening highs around 20º are perfect for pavement cafes. Daytime temperatures around 20º and long hours of reliable sunshine will delight visitors escaping the UK winter.

Airport and transport need to know
Package holidays to Campo de Golf begin at Gran Canaria Airport, also known as Las Palmas Airport (LPA). An efficient airport with a small collection of shops, bars and restaurants. Regular flights from London, Manchester and Birmingham. Airlines like Ryanair and Thomas Cook fly from regional UK airports like Cardiff, Glasgow, Bournemouth and Newcastle. Flight time is around 4 hours 15 minutes.
The 30km transfer to Campo de Golf takes about 35 minutes. Regular buses connect the airport with Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles. Fare is just €4 (£3) www.globalsu.net. A taxi from Gran Canaria Airport to Campo de Golf should cost €40-45 (£33-37). Cheap metered taxis are great for a night out in Playa del Ingles. Good local buses to beaches at Maspalomas, Playa del Ingles and Meloneras.
Self-drive should present few problems. A motorway directly links the airport with the south coast resorts. Avoid the congested capital Las Palmas and take care on narrow mountain roads. Drive on the right.
The best beaches in Campo de Golf
Gran Canaria beaches are deservedly popular with UK holidaymakers and have exceptionally wide-ranging appeal. Although more developed than Fuerteventura or Lanzarote you can still find a beach for every occasion. Many of the major resorts complement excellent family beaches with specialist nudist beaches and gay beaches. The short distance between resorts means it’s easy to combine lively beachfronts and quiet beach walks in the same holiday.
Beaches are very well maintained and supervised. Plenty of sunbeds, parasols, beach bars, toilets and showers. Expect idyllic sunbathing weather, safe swimming and great conditions for windsurfing and scuba diving classes.
Campo de Golf is perfectly placed for nicely contrasting beach areas. Legendary Playa del Ingles is the Canaries at its liveliest. You will feel the buzz whatever time of year you visit. Well over a mile long, this superb sandy beach has entertaining promenades lined with restaurants, shops and nightlife venues. Watersports galore along a mile and a half of fine soft sand.
Maspalomas Beach is firmly aimed at families and couples. Great facilities along a lovely stretch of fine pale sand. For more space move away from the main area of sunbeds. Plenty of restaurants and bars but Maspalomas remains much calmer than Playa de Ingles. Head past the lighthouse and you reach the rather upmarket and frequently quieter beach of Meloneras.
The Maspalomas sand dunes, between Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles, is a nature reserve popular with serious sunbathers and beach walkers. Restaurants and lifeguards are found on the outskirts of each resort. The central section is a wilder area popular with naturists. A great spot for camel rides and horse riding. You’ll find sunbeds for hire and regularly spaced beach bars. Great beach walks and walking trails but beware of hot sand and lack of shade.
