The best beaches in Bahia Feliz
Gran Canaria has excellent family beaches with well-maintained facilities and easy access to hotels. All major resorts have plenty of toilets and showers plus an area with sunbeds. Relaxing seafront promenades are usually free of cars. Affordable bars and restaurants are a short distance from the beach. Gran Canaria provides everything except the wilderness beaches of islands like Fuerteventura.
Bahia Feliz is the quietest of a string of resorts stretching south towards Maspalomas and Meloneras. Some beaches have been lovingly created with imported sand while others are natural dark volcanic sand. All are easy to reach on local buses.
Few visitors spend a lot of time at Bahia Feliz beach as space is limited. Most prefer to combine the hotel pool scene with amazing sandy beaches along the coast. Bahia Feliz beach is pebbly but does have some sand when the tide is out. OK for quiet sunbathing but slopes too steeply for children. Waves are fun but quite rough at times. The seafront is pretty and quite rugged for Gran Canaria. Windsurfers congregate at Club Mistral and Playa de Tarajillo. www.club-mistral.com
Virtually everyone heads for nearby San Agustin, a traditional resort with considerable charm. A sheltered 700m stretch of dark sand shelves gently into calm water. Perfect for unhurried sunbathing, safe swimming and long beach walks. Beautiful sandy beaches extend for miles to the south if you want more seclusion. An attractive promenade is home to some exceptional fish restaurants popular with locals at weekends.
For a taste of the Canaries at their liveliest head into Playa del Ingles. A fun scene during the day and the busiest nightlife on the island. A great day out, especially in combination with the impressive sand dune nature reserve between Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas.
