Playa Barca sits at the south west of the resort of Costa Calma and is well loved for being beautifully quiet. There’s not much to do in Playa Barca itself except sleep, sunbathe, swim and relax on the gorgeous, spacious sandy beaches. So it’s a great base to explore from!

Venture less than a quarter of a mile along the beach, which takes just a few minutes on foot, and you’ll discover Costa Calma, a smart and clean purpose built tourist resort. Here, you’ll find plenty to keep you entertained if you want to do a bit more than just lie and worship the sun! 

 

Costa Calma heads an area of coastline that includes the best beaches in the whole of the Canary Islands. It meanders a full twelve miles towards the Jandia Peninsula, sandy and safe for the kids. Here, the beaches are cleaned every day so they’re spotless. And if you’re into jogging, they provide a great place to run.

It’s no surprise that most of Playa Barca’s activities are based on and around the beach. Nearby Playa de Sotaveno, which is slightly more exposed than most beaches in the area, is great for windsurfing. You'll easily find places to hire equipment for surfing and windsurfing at various locations all along the coast.

 

Nearby Costa Calma enjoys eight separate commercial areas packed with shops. There are also many small shopping centres dotted all along the coastline so you’re never far from somewhere to buy your beach picnic!

 

You’ll find plenty of bars, pubs and restaurants. If you like fast food, there’s a great choice of restaurants. And there are a handful of lively bars. In the evenings, entertainment is generally provided by hotels – there are no clubs - so the resort is ideal for couples and families who prefer a quiet, relaxing holiday.

 

Canada Del Rio is the original village around which Costa Calma was built, and can be found in the resort’s centre.

 

The Costa Calma coast is surrounded by a well known ‘green zone’, plenty of green space which gives the resort a wonderfully un-crowded feel and a great place for leisurely walks away from the beach.
