Costa Caleta Holidays – Top Fuerteventura family choice

Our highest recommendation for a family holiday to Fuerteventura, thanks to well-equipped spacious beaches and a good all-round selection of things to do. Parents will appreciate the short 15 minute airport transfer and easy access to resort facilities from the beaches. Wonderfully calm shallow water is ideal for relaxed swimming and novice windsurfers. No old town to explore but the resort is attractively laid out and remains a very safe and relaxing place even in peak summer. This largely purpose-built resort has an ample choice of bars and economical restaurants but remains quieter than Corralejo. Low-rise hotels and apartments enjoy an excellent reputation. You can complement beach relaxation with boat trips, 18 hole golf, whale watching, diving, a wealth of watersports and bowling and cinema at the Atlantico shopping centre. Costa Caleta is also known as Caleta de Fuste.

When to go to Costa Caleta

Great value holidays to Costa Caleta are available all year round. You can choose your moment and take advantage of the best offers. July and August are the busiest months but extraordinary beaches mean plenty of room even in peak season. Prices tend to peak in the summer months as well as Easter, Christmas, New Year and school half-term holidays.

Many of the cheapest deals are found in early and late winter, when beaches still enjoy long hours of sunshine. You should find plenty of bargains in spring and autumn, when the weather is simply idyllic and Costa Caleta is even more laid-back.

The weather in Costa Caleta

No other destination in Europe can match Fuerteventura for year-round beach holiday sunshine. Conditions remain remarkably similar throughout the year. June to September is the hottest period but average highs are a comfortable 29º and humidity is low. Breezes help cool things down and provide perfect conditions for watersports. Summer evening temperatures are in the low 20’s.

Spring and autumn see gorgeous weather with temperatures hitting the mid 20’s. An amazing daily average of 7 hours of sunshine makes Costa Caleta a popular winter holiday destination. Maximum winter temperatures in the low 20’s can match a good summer day in the UK!

The best beaches in Costa Caleta

Fuerteventura beaches are widely regarded as the best in the Canary Islands. You’ll find well-equipped beaches with sun loungers and family holiday facilities. The main resort beaches are close to amazingly undeveloped and immensely long stretches of fine pale sand reminiscent of the Caribbean.

Caleta de Fuste beaches have imported sand but remain very impressive. Beaches in Costa Caleta are more family orientated than other resorts but still have plenty of wide open spaces a short walk from the sun loungers and umbrellas. The water is exceptionally calm and beaches shelve safely into the sea. Superb conditions for watersports. This is a great place to learn to windsurf or to try your hand at snorkelling or scuba diving.

The well-maintained resort centre beach is a broad wide curve of golden sand with sun loungers, beach umbrellas, toilets, showers, changing cubicles and beach bars. A relaxed family holiday atmosphere at any time of day. Restaurants, bars, shops, apartments and hotels are close to the beach.  A very safe beach for children, with very calm water and gently shelving sand. Sandy lagoons to the south are fun for kids.

The second Costa Caleta beach is more suited to serious swimming and windsurfing. Watersports tuition available. Attractive bar and restaurant over the sea. The specialist area for watersports is around the harbour. Children will enjoy submarine trips, glass-bottomed boats and a marine centre with dolphins.

For a taste of the wilder side of Fuerteventura you could take the bus or an excursion up to the El Jable sand dunes and the Playa Grandes near Corralejo. Or hire a car and head south to Playa Pozo Negro or the astonishing beaches of the Jandia peninsula.
