Punta Prima Holidays
Punta Prima Holidays – One of the best beaches in south-eastern Menorca
Located in the south-east corner of Menorca, Punta Prima is a small, peaceful resort with one of the best beaches in the area. It will suit couples and families with young children who are after a beach holiday without the loud club and bar scene synonymous with some other resorts in the Balearic Islands. Having said this, the town is ideally situated in the most populous area of Menorca, so there are plenty of other beaches and resorts nearby if you feel like exploring. While the night life in Punta Prima is mainly hotel-based, with a few bars and no nightclubs, Mahon is just 20 minutes away by bus for those after a lively night out. For those interested in diving, there is an excellent dive school at S’Algar around 2 miles up the coast. If you hire a car, you can take a lovely drive through some beautiful countryside to the picture-postcard villages of Llucamanens and Torret. And for a change of beach, take the road train that rattles along the coast westwards towards Binibeca.
When to go
Punta Prima will be at its liveliest during the peak summer months of June-August. During this time the resort sees the hottest weather and the most expensive accommodation prices. Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) will see pleasantly warm temperatures and much lower prices. During the winter months of November-March the resort all but closes down as this is primarily a beach resort and the weather is not so good.
Anybody interested in music should visit towards the end of July, when the annual Music Festival of Mahon is on for around a month in the nearby capital. Live blues, jazz and classical music are played at venues around the city. Visit over the 7th-9th of September and you’ll get to see the boisterous Fiesta de la Mare de Deu de Gracia, also in Mahon; a huge weekend long celebration with street parties, parades, live music, dancing, fireworks and plenty of Menorca’s own gin-drink, Pomada.
The weather in Punta Prima
