Beaches
The coves at Calas Fons and Calas Corb are located both side of town, and have small rocky inlets great for swimming. For sandy beaches, head to Cala Mesquida Beach, just 10 minutes away, which is ideal for the whole family with its safe waters, and the popular beaches at Punta Prima and Es Grau, which are just a short drive.
 
Boat Trips
Glass-bottomed boat trips depart from the harbour at Calas Fons and tour the bay and the Port of Mahon, where there are fantastic views of the town perched on the cliffs.
 
Water Sports
Sailing can be enjoyed when on a holiday in Es Castell, with nearby beaches offering windsurfing and paragliding, whilst the resort of S'Algar, further south, has a scuba-diving centre.
 
Sports & Leisure
The islands' only golf course at Son Bou is 20 minutes away, and horse riding, tennis and bike rental is available nearby. Local countryside offers the chance for walking and hiking and bird-watching trips, and the hippodrome at Mahon is home to horse racing.

Es Castell's harbour at Calas Fons is lively and bustling, yet family-friendly, with a great choice of bars and restaurants along the water's edge. Dining options range from traditional Spanish tapas bars and local fish restaurants, to places offering more international cuisine such as Italian and Chinese. Nightlife is fairly low-key, with a number of music bars and cafes.    
 
Sights
The historic town of Es Castell proudly displays its military past, and the streets are ideal for exploring on foot, from the main square which retains its distinct colonial heritage in its many Georgian buildings, to the lively harbour, which is the hub of the town. Historical sites to view include the Military Museum in the square, which served as the old British barracks, the Church of San Francisco and the nearby Marlborough Fort.
 
Day Trips
A visit to the capital Mahon is a must whilst on holiday in Es Castell, with its famous harbour, charming market and inviting selection of local shops. The prehistoric village of Trepuco is nearby, as is Es Grau National Park, a biosphere reserve for wildlife protection. Other day trips to consider include the fishing village of Fornells and the market town of Es Mercadel.
