Cala’n Forcat Holidays – One of the liveliest resorts on Menorca

One of the liveliest resorts on the island, bustling Cala’n Forcat is one of four neighbouring towns that have merged together to form the Menorca’s busiest resort area – the others being Cala’n Blanes, Los Delfines and Cala en Bruc. This is a very popular resort which some regard as the ‘Menorcan Benidorm’. While there are plenty of shops, bars and even a nightclub or two in Cala’n Forcat, you won’t find the high-rise hotel skyline of Benidorm here; in reality the town is far smaller. Think low-key karaoke bars and British theme-pubs rather than Ibizan-style super-clubs. Two small, sandy bays (the larger found a 10-minute walk away in Cala’n Blanes) provide beach relaxation. There is a small aquapark, ideal for families with small children, and a mini-train to runs throughout the town. A good choice for families and young couples.

When to go

The liveliest time of year for nightlife will be June-August. This is also the hottest time of year, and the most expensive. The peak summer months see hordes of tourists descend on the resort, and the two small beaches in the area can become quite crowded.

If you are after a more relaxing break, booking in spring (April-May) or autumn (September-October) may suit you more; during these times, the heat is less fierce but still pleasantly warm, and there are far less crowds (which means more space on the beach!) What’s more, Cala’n Forcat holidays are cheaper during these ‘off-peak’ periods.

The weather in Cala’n Forcat

Cala’n Forcat has a typically Balearic climate of long, hot summers and short mild winters. Spring lasts from April-May and sees pleasantly warm temperatures of around 18-21C. Come June the weather begins to heat up significantly to around 25C, continuing to rise throughout July and August to an average of 28C. September sees a cooling off, but the temperature can remain in the mid-high twenties well into October. The beginning of November is the start of winter and showers are increasingly likely, as well as strong northerly winds known as the traumontana.

Getting the best deal

To get the cheapest package holidays to Cala’n Forcat you need to be an early-bird. Booking well in advance will see you make the biggest savings, as the best deals and offers tend to sell like hotcakes. Particularly if you want to visit during peak season, popular hotels will sell out fast – the same goes for peak times such as the Easter school holidays and half-term dates.

From June prices tend to rise sharply until the end of August – if you have the flexibility, consider holidaying in spring or autumn, as these are considered ‘off-peak’ periods and you’re likely to find much cheaper prices. Booking self-catering accommodation is also likely to cut down the overall expense of your holiday. Our best deals on holidays to Cala’n Forcat are below, or see here for our late offers.

Airport and transport need to know

The Menorca Mahon airport (MAH) is a compact, modern building that can get very busy during the peak season. It is located around 2.5 miles from the island’s capital, Mahon. There is just 1 terminal here, set across two floors, and a small selection of shops. Flights to the airport from the UK operate from various regional airports such as Humberside and Exeter, as well as Manchester, Gatwick, Luton, and Stansted.

The airport is around 35 miles from Cala’n Forcat and it takes around 1 - 1.5 hours to reach the resort by car. A taxi rank is situated outside the Arrivals hall. Taxis can accommodate 4 people and work on a ‘fixed price’ basis. You should expect to pay around €55 for a taxi for four people with luggage. Child seats are generally not available unless you ring up and book in advance.

Alternatively, you can catch a shared shuttle bus relatively inexpensively. Coach companies such as Menorca Airport Transfers provide this service.

There is also the option to catch a public bus; this is the cheapest way of getting to the resort, but also the most time-consuming. Take the Airport-Mahon bus to the main bus station at Mahon. From here, you can catch a Nr.1 or Nr.14 bus to Ciutadella, where a connecting bus will take you to Cala’n Forcat – catch the bus from the bus stops in Ciutadella’s Town Hall Square.

The best beaches in Cala’n Forcat

The western coastline of Menorca is beautifully dramatic; rugged cliffs and rocks give way to a series of small inlets and sandy coves, with azure water lapping up to the shore. You won’t find expansive stretches of sand here like on the other Balearic Islands of Majorca and Ibiza, but these tiny sheltered bays have a unique charm all of their own. The area around Cala’n Forcat has 3 sandy beaches of note.

Cala’n Forcat

Cala’n Forcat beach is a narrow, sandy shore that gently sloped down into the turquoise waters of an inlet. There are a number of platforms along one side of the inlet for diving into the water. The sheltered nature of the cove means that the water is fairly calm; ideal for those with young children. The beach is accessible by a number of steps, so it may not be suitable for those in wheelchairs or with pushchairs. There are no facilities directly on the beach, but there are a number of bars and shops a few minutes’ walk away in the resort.

Cala Piques

This is a great beach for anyone after some peace and quiet. Secluded and completely undeveloped, you won’t find any facilities here but you will find glorious solitude. Cala Piques is essentially a smaller, quieter version of Cala’n Forcat – a narrow inlet of azure water with a small area of soft golden sand behind it. While there are sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach, the nearest public toilets are a few minutes away in the resort. Again this beach is accessible by steps. Be sure to take a picnic and hat.

Cala’n Blanes

Cala’n Blanes beach is regarded as the best in the area. The largest of the three, it boasts the typical fine white sand and clear waters of this area of the coast. Unlike the Cala Piques and Cala’n Forcat, this beach has a variety of facilities including public toilets, beach cafes and a diving school. This beach can become quite crowded during the peak summer months.
