Binibeca Holidays
Binibeca – An undiscovered gem on Menorca’s south coast
A small, laid-back fishing village on southern coast of Menorca, Binibeca is one of those rarest of tourist destinations in the Balearic Islands; a town that remains virtually undeveloped. If pumping club music, British theme pubs and high-rise hotel blocks are your idea of hell, this is the place for you. Binibeca is an undiscovered gem on Menorca; a place as yet unfound by the major tour operators, where you can truly relax and unwind. Those on Binibeca holidays are sure to wander into Binibeca Vell at some point; a beautiful end of town built in the style of a traditional fishing village, complete with its own harbour. Couples looking for a relaxing break will love this resort as will families, who will appreciate the fine white sands and warm shallow waters of the beach.
When to go
The relatively unknown nature of the resort means that Binibeca is fairly quiet all year round. Even at its busiest in the peak summer months of June-July, the resort will be no-where near as manic as its larger counterparts such as Cala’n Forcat. The quietest months are between November-March. It is not recommended to visit during these months as the town virtually closes down due to inclement weather. The hottest time of year is summer, but the spring and autumn will also see good weather as well as cheaper ‘off-peak’ prices.
The weather in Binibeca
Binibeca enjoys a long, hot summer, with the months of June-August average maximum daytime temperatures of between 25-29C. Evening temperatures during this time average between 17-21C. Airport and transport need to know
All visitors to Menorca will fly into the island’s sole airport, the Menorca Mahon (MAH). This is a small but bustling hub, with one terminal set across two tiers, that can get very busy during the peak summer months. There is a small selection of shops and restaurants here.
The distance from the airport to Binibeca is around 8km and it takes a round 30 minutes by car. The easiest way to get to the resort is by taxi, which you can catch outside the Arrivals hall. Taxis seat up to 4 people and do not have child seats available. They run on a ‘fixed price’ basis, and should cost no more than €25 on average – be aware however that this price based on a number of factors, such as how much luggage you have or how late at night it is, and is to some degree dependent on the mood of the taxi driver at the time.
There is a public bus service that runs from the airport into main bus depot in Mahon, from where you can pick up a transfer to Binibeca. This can be a time-consuming process however. An alternative is to book a shared shuttle bus to your resort using one of the coach companies that operate from the airport, such as Shuttle Direct.
If you choose to hire a private car from the airport for your stay in Menorca, be aware that the route to Binibeca may not be easy to follow. Although the airport is not far from the resort, it is only accessible along small, unmarked roads. As such it may make more sense to arrange car hire in Binibeca after you’ve settled in and got your bearings.
