Arenal den Castell Holidays
Arenal den Castell - A laid-back Balearic beach resort
With its gracefully curving horseshoe bay, lapped by warm, shallow waters and fringed by fragrant pines, it’s no wonder Arenal den Castell holidays are a popular beach getaway choice. The bay here is rated as one of the top 5 beaches in Menorca and has graced many a tour operator’s brochure cover. This small resort is quiet and laid-back, with a smattering of bars and restaurants that offer a low-key nightlife scene. It’s very popular with families who have young children due to the sheltered nature of the beach and quiet evenings, and with couples looking for a chilled-out place to spend some time in the sun. For those looking to explore, the resort of Son Parc is a short drive away and has a golf course and tennis facilities.
When to go
Arguably the most pleasant time to visit is in the spring (April-May), as the hordes of summer tourists have not yet arrived to fill the beach, and the weather is still pleasantly warm. Autumn (September-October) can see good weather right up until late October; both the spring and autumn season will see the cheapest prices.
Arenal den Castell is at its busiest during the summer months between June-August, when the weather is at its peak but so are the prices. The quietest months will be November-March, when the resort all but closes down. This is due to the noticeable change in weather; the north of Menorca can get very windy during the winter months and temperatures dip into the low teens.
The weather in Arenal den Castell
Arenal den Castell has distinct seasons, with a long hot summer (June-August), pleasantly warm spring and autumn seasons (April-May and September-October) and a colder, wetter winter (November-March).
The hottest months are June-August, with daytime temperatures ranging between the mid-high twenties on average, and evening temperatures dropping between 18-22C. Towards the end of the autumn, around late October-early November, there is an increasing risk of rain as well as the onset of strong winds from the north. November-March is best avoided if you’re planning a beach holiday!

Airport and transport need to know
There is only one international airport on Menorca – the Menorca Mahon (MAH). The majority of the flights it accommodates are international charter flights. The airport is quite small with just one terminal, but can get busy in the summer months.
Arenal den Castell is only around 16 miles away from the airport, but takes approximately 45 minutes to reach by car. The reason for the length of the journey is that the road is not particularly fast.
Taxi is the most convenient way to reach the resort from the airport. Taxis operate on a fixed price basis – however, please be aware that this price can be dependent on the number of suitcases, the number of people to be taken, the time of day or night and the mood the taxi driver is in. As a rule, you should not expect to pay much more than €35 for a taxi carrying 4. Taxis are found outside the Arrivals hall, accommodate up to 4 people and do not have child-seats.
Alternatively, there is a public bus service that runs from the airport to Mahon central bus depot. From the central depot, transfers run to a number of the main resorts on the island. This option can be quite time consuming however.
A compromise between the ease of a taxi and the price of a public bus can be found in the shared shuttle buses run by many coach companies from the airport. This can be arranged fairly cheaply from companies such as Shuttle Direct.
