Porto Cristo Holidays
Porto Cristo Holidays – A Majorca fishing town with character
Porto Cristo appeals to those looking for some authenticity and character beyond the normal Majorca beach resort. The town combines a likeable flourishing town with a pretty fishing harbour that is not entirely dependent on tourism or lacking in charm. Porto Cristo is in the middle of the attractive rugged east coast of the island, 40 miles east of Palma and the airport. It offers a small quiet family resort popular with couples looking for a characterful and relaxing spot, away from the big crowds and busy nightlife. Breaks here tend to focus on the old centre with its tree-shaded esplanade, colourful narrow lanes, sheltered harbour and the sandy Porto Cristo beach. Two highlights are the outstanding caves of Drach and the equally impressive caves at Hams. Both are very close to.
Holidays in Porto Cristo – A quiet spot popular with couples
Sandy Porto Cristo beach is set away from the main road in a sheltered bay. Quieter beaches and picturesque bays to each side of the town provide alternative unspoilt beaches, and can be reached by regular local coast buses. The superb natural harbour between headlands makes Porto Cristo a popular base for yachtsmen. The resort offers a good selection of cafes, bars and restaurants including some pleasant outdoor terraces with views of the quayside. Nightlife is decidedly low-key and limited to a couple of discos. Take a taxi to Cala Millor if your holiday has become too relaxing!
Porto Cristo holidays – A privileged setting
Holidays in Porto Cristo provide a fine base for easy rewarding coastal walks. The town enjoys a position close to farmland, orchards and mountains. Visitors to the town should take a look at the tiny aquarium and a trip to neighbouring Manacor, famous for pearls and a thriving Monday market. Popular excursions include the caves, the old town of Arta, the market and leather factory at Inca, the monastery of San Salvador, the villages of the north-east and north-west coasts, and a varied choice of boat trips and cruises. Breaks in Porto Cristo are not complete without a visit to the splendid Gothic cathedral and historic old town of Palma, which can also be reached.
